ولما تلاقَيْنا ولم نَخْش كاشحاً

ولم نَتكاتم ما بنا من جوى الحبِّ

When we met without fear or reservation

And did not conceal our innermost thoughts

جعلتُ يدي مستخبراً فوق قلبها

وجالتْ بيُمنى راحتيها على قلبي

I placed my hand over her heart

And she gently rested her palm against my chest

فلما تصادقنا اختياراً ورُؤيةً

تعلَّق منها الصبُّ بالمُدْنَفِ الصّبّ

When we chose each other willingly

Passion clung to us like bees to nectar

وبِتنا على غيظ العدوّ ورَغْمه

ضجيعَيْن نَجْني الطِّيب من شجر القُرْب

We found solace from enemies' spite

Resting together, savoring intimacy's sweet fruit

تنير بمثل البدر من صحن خدِّها

وتفتّر عن نور الضحى باردٍ عَذْب

Her cheek glows like the full moon

Her smile radiates the cool dawn's brightness
