أُحِبُّ عدوّي فيك والكاشح الذي

يَنُمُّ علينا والرقيبَ الذي يسعى

I love my enemies because of you,

The spy who keeps watch over us and the guard seeking us out.

لأنهمُ من أجلِ حبِّك أصبحوا

معارفَ لي لا أستطيع لهم دفعا

For they have become, because of love for you,

People I know but cannot repel.

ولولاك ما خادعت قلبي ومهجتي

وصيَّرتُ ضرّي فيك عند الورى نَفْعا

Without you, I would not have misled my heart and mind,

Making my suffering seem, to people, of use.

ولو لم أكن أُرْضيك إلا بناظري

لأعطيتك العينين والقلب والسمعا

If I did not please you except with my gaze,

I would give you my eyes, my heart, my hearing.

وما غاب عن قلبي الرشادُ وطُرْقُه

ولكنْ حُسَامُ الحبِّ يَقْرَعُه قرعا

Wisdom has not vanished from my heart nor its ways,

But the swords of love keep striking it blows.
