الحَمدُ لله شكراً

هذا الذي أتمنّى

Praise be to God, thank You

For this which I wish for

قبّلْتُ مَنْ كنتُ صبًّا

به كئيباً معنّى

I kissed whom I was raging with love for

Saddened, giving meaning to melancholy

فكدتُ أفِنيه بالضَّ

ضمّ والعِناق وأَفنَى

I almost destroyed him with clasping

And embracing, and he destroyed me

جنَيْتُ باللَّثْمِ منه

ما كان باللّحظ يُجنَى

I attained from his kiss

What could not be attained in a glance

قل للعذول على ما

حَقّي به أن أُهنّا

Say to the blamer over what

Is my right with him to be blamed

لا نِلْتَ ما كان منه

يومَ الوصال ومِنّا

You have not attained what was from him

The day of union and from us
