أتنسَى أيُّها العات

ب ظلما ليلةَ النَهْرِ

O you who passed the night oppressively at the riverside,

And rolled in our narrow paths,

وكَرَّاتِ مجارِينا

من المختار للجَسْر

From Al Mukhtar to the bridge,

The full moon rose to face you,

وقد قابلكَ البدر

فأخمدْت سنا البدرِ

So you put out the full moon’s light,

Dawn shone from your face during the night without dawn,

ولاح الفجرُ من وجه

ك في الليل بلا فجرِ

On your cheeks is that which surpasses metaphor with wine,

And your words perfumed to the extent of scenting the sea,

وفي خدّيك ما رقَّ

عن التشبيه بالخمر

Your glances weakened me until I went not knowing,

Whether it was sickness amid your eyelids or kohl of sorcery,

وألفاظُك قد عَطَّر

ن حتّى سَمَكَ البحر

You gave me your cup mixed with the lips,

Until I was satiated and lay inebriated,

وأضنتنيَ ألحاظ

ك حتى رُحْتُ لا أدري

We spent the night in our proximity, closer than estrangement,

Like the fasting person who fulfilled the night of Eid,

أَسُقْمٌ بين أجفانِ

ك أم كُحْلٌ من السِحْر

Without sin, immorality, obscenity or denial,

When dawn rose you hid the dawn with poetry,

وقد عاطيتني كأسَ

ك ممزوجاً من الثغر

Clouds shaded us,

Like fresh lilies,

إلى أن مِلتُ واستلقي

ت للَجنْب من السكر

With rhymed joy,

And prose of rainfall,

وبِتنا مِن تدانينا

على أضيقَ من فِتْر

The air was good until it was scented with your perfume,

Had I not feared for your body that bruising would occur,

مَبِيتَ الصائم الغَرْثا

ن وافَى ليلة الفِطر

I would have left marks of nuzzling on the breast,

As I leave my name branded by time’s hand,

بلا بَغْيٍ ولا إثْم

ولا فُحْش ولا نُكْر

I am the one seen with comprehension and known for news,

I am the one heard for virtue and attributed in poetry,

فلمَّا طَلَع الصبح

كتمتَ الصبح بالشعر

I am the one whose command is praised and effect deemed good,

I am the prominent whose prominence the most prominent vaunt,

وقد ظلَّلنَا الغيمُ

بمِثْل السَوْسَن النَضْر

I am the sword which inflicts,

I am the rain which sustains,

بمنظوم من اللهو

ومنثورٍ من القَطْر

I am the dawn, I am the sun,

I am the moon which moves,

وطاب الجوّ حتى فا

ح من ريحك بالعِطِر

I am the one hoped for in hardship,

I am the one hoped for in ease,

فلولا أنني خِفتُ

على جسمك أن يجري

I am the son of the eminent constellation,

I am the son of the brilliant stars,

لأبقيتُ علاماتٍ

من التجميش في النحر

I am the son of revelation, wisdom,

The Criterion and the Reminder,

كما أبقي ندايّ اسمِ

يَ وَسْماً في يد الدَهر

I am the son of the House, the Hill,

The Sanctuary and the Stone,

أنا المرئيُّ بالأَفها

م والمعروفُ بالخُبرْ

I am the son of the highest nobility,

I am the attainer of totality,

أنا المسموع بالإفضا

ل والمنعوتُ في الشعر

I am the sender of blessings,

I am the dispeller of harm,

أنا المستحمَد الأمر

أنا المستحسنَ الأثْر

I am the sunderer of schism,

I am the breaker of the back,

أنا المفتخر البال

غ بالفخر مدى الفخر

I am the pourer of glory,

I am the mender of breaks,

أنا السيف الذي يَفْري

أنا الغيث الذي يَقْرِي

I am the insightful of opinion,

I am the venerable hearer,

أنا الصبح أنا الشمس

أنا البدر الذي يسري

I am the striker with blades,

I am the piercer with spearheads,

أنا المرجوُّ في العُسْر

أنا المرجوّ في اليُسْر

I am the seer of the earth’s mountains and the knower of history,

I am the forbearing unifier,

أنا ابن الآنفُ الشُمّ

أنا ابن الأنجم الزُهْر

I am the wise gatherer,

I am the terrifier of jinn,

أنا ابن الوحي والحكم

ة والفُرْقان والذكر

I am the traverser of the desert,

I am the assembler of armies,

أنا ابن البيتِ والمرَوْ

ةِ والمَشْعَرِ والحْجِرِ

I am the spacious of chest,

So ask about my nobility, generosity,

أنا ابن الشرف الأعلى

أنا ابن النائل الغَمْر

And ask about my benevolence, give good tidings.

أنا المُسْبِل للنُعْمَى

أنا الكاشف للضُرّ

أنا الراتق للفَتْق

أنا القاصم للظَهْرِ

أنا الهائض للعَظْمِ

أنا الجابر للكسر

أنا المبصِر بالرأي

أنا المسمِع ذا الوَقْر

أنا الضارب بالبِيضِ

أنا الطاعن بالسُمْر

أنا الرائي جبال الأر

ض والعالِم بالذِكْر

أنا المتصِل الحلِم

أنا المجتمِع المكر

أنا المُرهب للجنّ

أنا القاطِع للقَفْر

أنا المجتمِع الجَأْشِ

أنا الرَّحْبُ مَدَى الصدر

فسل عن شرفي فضلي

وسل عن كرمي بِشري
