She chided me, so I bent in apology,

And the tears from her eyelids began to flow.

She stretched her hands to her cheek,

    So that jasmine met clove.

    Many who pretend to chide,

Only do so out of vanity.

Give me a draft that dyes the cup

    As youth dyes the cheeks.

See how gently the night falls

    As its darkness spreads.

The sky looks like a turbulent sea,

With stars like bubbles in its midst.

It's as if dawn in the horizon

Is a falcon, and darkness in its talons a raven.

It's as if the Pleiades is a polished sword

And darkness upon it a sheath.
