أتاني وانثنى وَجِلاً
وجَرَّ حِبالَه خَجَلا
He came to me, bowed down humbly
Dragging his ropes bashfully
وقال أخاف حُسّادِي
وأَخشى ذلِك العملا
And said, "I fear my enviers
And dread that shameful deed"
ومالَ بفَرْدِ حاجِبهِ
وصدَّ وكَسَّر المُقَلا
He bent his solitary brow
Turned away and broke his glance
فقلت له دعِ التعري
ضَ والتستِير والثّقلا
So I said to him, "Cast off pretense
And this veil and heaviness
ودونك يا سَحُورَ الطَّرْ
فِ هذا القائمَ الثَّملا
Is this ardent, passionate lover
The best that you see, if
فأَحسنُ ما تراه إذا
تناول رَأسُهُ الكَفَلا
His head reaches the ankles
