1. وضعيفةِ الألحاظ ساحرةٍ

    زادت لواحظُها على السحر

    Of languid glance a sorceress is she,

    Her charms surpass all magic utterly.

  2. صفراء يحسبها محدِّثُها

    ذَهَباً يكاد بَضَاضَةً يجري

    Her wooer deems her yellow locks to be

    Pure gold that flows in brilliancy set free.

  3. فكأنما خَفَرُ الحياءِ بها

    سُقْمٌ غدت منه على سكر

    As if the veil of modesty in her

    Were but a sickness that intoxicates.

  4. وكأنّ رقَةَ لفظها جمعت

    طِيبَ الوصال ولذّةَ البِشر

    Her gentle words seem to have blended quite

    The sweet of union and the wish to unite.

  5. فحديثُها كالبُرء أو كَرِضا الْ

    مَحْبُوب بعد السُّخْط والهجر

    Her speech is like goodwill or pleasure ta'en

    After displeasure and estrangement's pain.

  6. إن قلّ أدّته بلا لَبَثٍ

    أو طال نَصَّته بلا هَذْر

    Be it short, no tediousness therein lies,

    Or long, no frothy verbosity implies.

  7. ترتجّ من ثِقَلِ روادفُها

    حتّى تنوءَ بدقّة الخَصْر

    Her heavy hips, as she walks, undulate

    As though she trod on rubbish or on fire.

  8. فكأنها قمر على غُصُنٍ

    قد لاح في ليلٍ من الشَّعْر

    She seems a moon on bough that comes to sight

    From out a night of hair that shames the night.

  9. في صفرة كالخمر شاهدةٍ

    أنّ الجمالَ المحضَ للصُّفْر

    Proving all absolute beauty's yellow hue,

    As vines exude a yellow juice for you.

  10. وإذا مشتْ من لينها اضطربت

    مثلَ اضطراب الموجِ فِي البحر

    When softly stepping, her soft steps suggest

    The movements of a wave that swells the breast

  11. وكأنها تخطو إذا نهضت

    فوق المناصل أو على الجمر

    Of seas, and she appears to tread upon

    Hot iron or sharp sabres, and walks on.

  12. لا تعذُلِوا فيها المحبَّ فقد

    قامتْ له بجوامع العُذْر

    Chide not her lover, for he's fully worth

    Her breaking even the best laws on earth!
