لا تضِق بالدهر ذَرعا

واقتل الدهر جِهارَا

Do not be weary of time,

Slay time openly,

بمُدام تقتل الهمْ

مَ غُبوقا وابتكارا

With wine slay cares

While happy and inventive.

ودعِ الدهرَ وإن خا

ن مُثِيرا ما أثارا

Leave time be, though it rouse

What it stirred up.

إن أسف من أن

تقتني منه حِذارا

Regret not what

You guarded against it

لم نجِد مما قضى الل

هُ من الأمر فِرارا

We find no fleeing what

God has decreed.

فاسقِني صِرْفاً وغَنِّ

داوِ بالخمر الخُمَارا

Give me pure wine, and sing to me

With limpid ruby wine.
