1. جلَّت مساعيّ عن الفخرِ

    فهي نجوم الأَنجم الزُهْرِ

    My strivings transcend boasting,

    They are the brightest of the bright stars.

  2. وكيف يحصي الفخرُ تعديد ما

    أَحْوِي وقد زاد على القَطْر

    How can boasting enumerate what I contain,

    When what I hold has surpassed drops of rain?

  3. من فضل نوري نورُ شمس الضحى

    ومن سَنَا عِرضي سنا البدر

    From the grace of my light is the morning sun’s light,

    And from my elevation is the full moon’s loftiness.

  4. أيُّ كريمٍ لم يشِمْ شِميتي

    وأيُّ عافٍ لم يَرِد بَحري

    What noble one has not smelled my fragrance?

    And what sound person has not come to my ocean?

  5. وأيُّ مجد لم أَلِجْ بابَه

    وأيُ علمٍ لم يلِجْ صدري

    What glory have I not opened its door?

    And what knowledge has not entered into my chest?

  6. يفتخر الفضلُ بكَسْبي له

    وتسمع الأيّام من أمري

    Merit prides itself on my achievements,

    And time hears about my affairs.

  7. كم أنزل المقدارُ عن قدره

    من جهِلتْ فطنتُه قدري

    How much fate has lowered from its position,

    When my discernment raised its value.

  8. فحسب مَن قاطعني أنه

    بات عدوّاً فيّ للدهر

    So it suffices whoever has opposed me,

    That he has spent the night an enemy to me forever.

  9. كم مظهِرٍ لي في الورى غدره

    رماه عني الدهر بالغدر

    How many betrayers I have for me in the world,

    Time has cast them away from me out of betrayal.

  10. وظالمٍ لم يألُ في ظلمه

    عوقِب بي من حيث لا يدري

    And how many oppressors who did not cease in their oppression,

    Were punished by me without their knowing.

  11. فمنهمُ مَن ذاق كأس الردى

    مختَرَماً قبل مدى العمر

    Among them is he who tasted the cup of misery,

    Shattered before the passage of time.

  12. ومنهمُ من شَتَّتَتْ شملَه ال

    أَيامُ بعد الجَمْع والوَفْر

    And among them is he whose unity time has scattered,

    After gathering and abundance.

  13. ومنهمُ من حُطَّ عن عِزّه

    فعاش في ذلّ وفي ذُعْر

    And among them is he who was lowered from his glory,

    And lived in humiliation and dread.

  14. قل لبني اللَّخناء ذي آيةٌ

    واضحةُ الإسرار والجهر

    Say to the people of villainy, as a clear sign,

    Revealing the hidden and the open:

  15. وهكذا يُخْذَل في دهره

    كلُّ دعِيٍّ صَدّ عن نصري

    “Thus is every obstinate opponent humiliated in his time,

    Who blocked my aid.”

  16. أقسِم بالبيت ومَنْ حجَّه

    والركنِ والمشعَرِ والحِجْر

    I swear by the House, and whom has made pilgrimage to it,

    And the Corner, and the Station, and the Stone.

  17. لو أَضْمرتْ لي الشمسُ في جوّها

    سُوءاً لراحت وهْيَ لا تجري

    If the sun concealed within its sphere any evil against me,

    It would cease its course, unable to complete it.

  18. وكلُّ مَنْ أبغضني إنّه

    يموت أو يحيا على صُغْر

    And everyone who hates me, he will surely

    Die or live in pettiness.
