I thanked his generosity for a friendly day
That healed me with a visitor whose friendship took my pain away
I made my farewells an excuse to see his face again
And let me kiss his cheek though departure was ordained
So I could kiss his rosy cheek before we went our ways
That burning kiss unleashed the tears that poured down from his eyes
As though my tears upon his cheek were strung in flowery bands
Like raindrops in a jasmine necklace strung upon his face
