Take from me the smiling pearl
And the magic of eyes and rhythm of words
And write of one whose face radiates
Like the sun of day and the full moon of darkness
He has lips the color of night’s shadow
On cheeks like the hue of ripe grapes
And say to her who shed my soul’s blood
With doubts unfounded and accusations false
You who brought death to the lover’s cheek
Your eyes stained him with blood
Yes, the scorpion’s sting is venomous
But only your eyes held poison for him
