We have apricots like the wish of desires
A beloved near or far to us
Those who taste it love its sweetness
And tongues sing its pleasures
Its flesh ripens gradually
Like the slow blossoming of a bud
Roasted in its own heat
Adorned with rose and lily
As if when we taste it
The beloved kiss away our sorrows
We ate it while the water told us
The murmur of its streams intoxicated us
And we have no wine, my heart’s companion
To perfect our joy with it
So what do you think of fine fish
If the apricot wind passes without us?
We saw the stars of the loved ones
And by God, we must be drunk!
