1. ليس من ساد عن وِرَاثته جَدّ

    وبحظٍّ من الحظوظ مُتاحِ

    No one deserves praise or gratitude

    By inheriting glory or random fortune.

  2. يَسْتحِقّ الثّنا ويستوجب الشُّكْ

    ر ويَحْوي مدائحَ المُداحِ

    The exalted master, the ransomed one,

    Is he who stood tall amid the spearheads

  3. إنّما السيّد المعلّى المُفَدّى

    مَن علا للعُلاَ صدورَ الرِّماحِ

    And attacked the night of every peril

    With the brilliance brighter than a lamp.

  4. ورَمى ليلَ كلّ خطْب بَهِيم

    بذكاء أضْوا من المصباح

    He acquired dignity through courage and loftiness

    And bought praise through benevolence and tolerance.

  5. واقتنى العزَّ بالظُّبا والعوالي

    واشترى الحمدَ بالنَّدى والسَّماح

    Thus is glory built and greatness attained

    As the hostile enemy is kept away.

  6. فكذا تُبْتَنى المكارمُ والمج

    دُ ويُسْتبعَد العدوُّ المُلاحي

    Not like one who imitated others

    Or soared like a bird with no wings.

  7. لا كمن قد جَرى بِرجلِ سِواه

    وسما طائراً بغير جناح

    I did not befriend glory nor befriended by it

    If I sought it with less than my wrap.

  8. لا ألِفْتُ العلا ولا ألِفَتْني

    إن توشّحتُ دونها بِوشاح

    Or if I was diverted by frivolities

    Or rumors or comfort or rest.

  9. أو ترفّهت أو تشاغَلتُ عنها

    بأباطيل قَيْنةٍ أو بِرَاحِ

    Glory's whiteness is not bleached for me

    Unless I wash it with the blood of wounds.

  10. لا ولا ابيضَّ لي سَنَا المجد إن لم

    أسْتَجِدْ غسلَه بنزفِ الجِراح

    And keep the enemies away with resolve

    Above all, that crushes barriers.

  11. وأُلاقِ العُداةَ عنه بعزمٍ

    عَلَويٍّ يَفُلّ حدّ الصِّفاحِ

    And with might that splits skulls and necks

    Like flesh split for sacrifice.

  12. وببطشٍ يَفْري الجماجمَ والأَعْ

    ناق فَرْيّ لحومَ الأضاحي

    I am the singular light and lord of highness

    And the sword on the day of swords.

  13. أنا فَرد النُّهى وربُّ المعالي

    وحُسامُ الكِفاح يومَ الكِفاحِ

    I am the key to every glory

    When the world starts without keys.

  14. أنا مفتاح قُفل كلِّ نوالٍ

    يوم يغدو النَّدى بلا مفتاح

    I am serious like a wall in matters

    While others jest and play.

  15. أنا كالجِدِّ في الأمور إذا ما

    كان غيري فيهن مثل المُزاحِ

    Not one who claims glory falsely

    With a blemished and impure offer.

  16. لا كَراض من العلا بادّعاء

    وبِعِرْضٍ مجرَّحِ مُسْتباحِ

    Ask glory about my mornings, nights,

    Evenings, risings and rests.

  17. فسلِ المجدَ عن صباحي وليلي

    ومَقِيلي وغُدْوتي ورَواحي

    Does my speech and deed delight it?

    My dedication and determination?

  18. هلي يَسُرّ العلا مقالي وفعلي

    وارتياحي لكسبها واقتراحي

    While others are but barking dogs.

  19. هاكها كالصهِيل في حلبة الفَخْ

    ر إذا كان غيرُها كالنُّباحِ
