Our blessed day was made joyful
In Mukhtar's courtyard with water of delight
When we secretly and openly pluck pleasures
With the rain's companion, my father Mansur
The horizon shone over the island
When visited, as it was amid might and light
A King who commands, yet by his grace
He is gentle to all he reigns over
See how the garden displayed a breeze
Adding to its fragrance more than camphor
And how the birds of the trees sang
With their warbling and their whistling
They chant of weary souls
And respond to the voice of an intimate friend
Like slender branches they seem
Delicately touching beneath the abodes
Each fascinated gazelle kindles passion
With sweet words and a magical glance
So leave aside thoughts and don delightful clothes
Reveling joyfully beneath his famed pavilion
And pass around the wine-cup merrily
Serving the great and the small
May days not bring woe or stumbling
To the mighty lord of pure conscience
