1. وباكيةٍ من غير دمع بأعينٍ

    على غير خدّ دائماً تتحدّرُ

    With tearless weeping from eyes

    That forever descend on cheeks not their own

  2. يغنّي بها زجل المدِير لقُطْبها

    فيطرِبها حُسْن الغِناء فتنعَر

    The director's poet sings of her beauty

    His singing disturbs her, though fair it be, and she frowns

  3. إذا نزف العشّاق دمعَ عيونهمْ

    فأدمعها مع كثرةِ السكب تغزُر

    When lovers shed the tears of their eyes

    Her copious weeping makes their tears seem but a drizzle
