قد عَزَمْنا على التصّيد والنُّزْ

هَةِ والصّيدُ في التَّنَزُّه فَضْلُ

We are determined to go hunting and strolling

And hunting while strolling has special merit

فيه ضَرْبٌ من السياسة والعَزْ

مِ وفيه لِلْحَزْمِ عَقْدٌ وحَلٌ

In it there is a kind of politics and dignity

And in it, wisdom has its design and solution

ولَدَيْنا من الجَوَارح للطَّيْ

رِ ضُروبٌ فهنّ للطير قَتِلُ

We have different birds of prey for catching

So they are for catching birds, a killing tool

ولدَيْك البواشِقُ اللاءِ قَدْ رُحْ

نَ كما رُحْتَ ما لِفَضلِك مِثْلُ

You have gallant hawks that went away

As you went away, nothing equals your merit

فَتَفَضَّلْ بباشِقَ كُلُّ ما فِي

هِ جَناحٌ ومِخْلَبٌ فِيهِ نَصْل

So favor me with any hawk that has

Wings and claws in which there is sharpness

طالَمَا طاردَ السُّماني وأَضحَى

دَمُها وهْوَ تَحتَ رِجلَيهِ نَعْل

It has long pursued the bustard until

Its blood flows while under its feet a sandal

وافِر الدَّسْتِ مُرْهَف الرِّيشِ لولا

صَدْرُه لم يكن له مِنه ثِقْلُ

Abundant in grip, sharp-feathered, if not for

Its chest, it would have no weight on it

واقتراحِي له عليكَ لِعلمي

أنني مخلِصٌ لديك مُدِلُّ

And my suggestion to you, knowing

I am loyal to you, an avid suitor
