عهدُ المحبِّ المخلِص المتطوِّع

متجمِّع أبدا وإن لم يجمعِ

The covenant of the sincere loving volunteer

Always gathered together even if not assembled

يُرجى الوفاءُ من المَلُول وإن نأَى

والحفظُ لا يرجى من المتصنّع

Loyalty is hoped for from the weary even if remote

While safekeeping is not hoped for from the pretender

مالي عدِمتُ مكاتباتِك بُرْهَةً

لملالة ذا أم لخوف موجِعِ

Why have I been deprived of your correspondence for a while

Is it out of boredom or fear of pain?

إن كنتَ من تضييع سرِّك عندنا

تخشى فكيف تُضيع غيرَ مضيِّعِ

If you fear losing your secret with us

How could you lose what is not lost?

مكنونُ سرِّك في فؤادي ثابتٌ

بين الجوانِح والحشى والأضلُعِ

The secret you confide in me remains fixed

Between the ribs, guts, and lungs

إني جعلت عليك أعدل شاهدٍ

يرعاك حسن ودادِك المتسرع

I have made justice your most upright witness

Who guards your rushing affection

فاربَعْ مع الكرماءِ تحت وفائهم

حتى تقولَ لك العلا لا تربعِ

So crouch with the generous under their loyalty

Until the heights say to you, do not crouch!

واصبِر لرَيْب الدهر صبر مجرّب

وادفع رزاياه بأحسنِ مَدْفعِ

And be patient with the turns of fate, seasoned patience

Repel its calamities with the best defense

فلعلّه يوماً يعود بعَطْفِهِ

يُحيي حُشاشات العطاشِ الجُوَّعِ

Perhaps one day it will return in kindness

Reviving the thirsty cravings of the famished

إن كنت تعلم أنني أهلٌ لما

تُسْدِي إليَّ من الوفاء فمَنْ معي

If you know I am worthy of the loyalty

You confer upon me, then who is with me?

فَوَحقّ مَنْ أنا نجله مِن هاشم

قَسَماً يتمّ من الحسابِ لأربعِ

By the right of the one whose son I am from Hashim

A vow to be fulfilled from the account for four

لأُمكِّنَنَّ البِيضَ من هامِ العِدَا

ولأقطعن أنامِلاً لم تقطعِ

I will empower the whites against the zeal of enemies

And cut fingers that have not been cut

ولأنزعن من التراقي غُصَّة

لم تنتزع بالبِيض إذْ لم تبلعِ

And extract from the neck a choke

That has not been extracted if not swallowed
