1. رأيتُ الهوى إمّا دليلاً على الخَنَى

    يَحطُّ رفيعَ القَدْر أو يدفع النُّصْحا

    I saw passion as either a guide to disgrace,

    Degrading the dignified or repelling advice.

  2. ولا خيرَ في أمرٍ إذا حلّه الفتى

    غدا عِرضُه نَهْبا وإحسانُه قُبْحا

    There is no good in a matter when passion seizes a young man,

    His honor becomes plunder and his charity ugliness.

  3. فمن كان ذا عقلٍ فلا يُطعِ الهوى

    فقد شَرَحته المَخْزياتُ لنا شَرْحا

    So whoever possesses intellect must not obey passion,

    For disgraces have explained it to us plainly.
