1. عَجَّ العَجاجُ وكانَ أَوَّلَ طاعِنٍ

    أَنطِيلُخٌ بِطَلائِعِ الطُّروادِ

    وكذاكَ هَكطُرُ عُمدَةُ الأَمجادِ

    And the Greeks advanced between battle cries

  30. وتَقَدَّمَ الإغرِيقُ بَينَ هَلاهِلٍ

    وسَعَوا بِجَمعِ مُشَتَّتِ الأَجسَادِ

    And sought to gather the scattered bodies

    From high Pergamos Apollo saw

  31. مِن فَوقِ فِرغامٍ أَفُلُّونٌ رَأَى

    فَدَعاهُمُ لِتصلُّبٍ وعِنادِ

    لَكِنَّ فِيرُؤُس تَقَدَّمَ عادِي

    That crushed it, so he stretched out his hands calling for help

    He was thrown to the ground calling to his people

  41. أَحشَاءَهُ بالرُّمحِ شَقَّ فَمُزِّقَت

    وَعَلى الرِّمالِ بدَت لَدى الأَندادِ

    But Pherous advanced in attack

    He ripped open his guts with the spear, and they spilled out

  42. فعَدا ثُوَاسُ على العَدُوِّ بِطَعنَةٍ

    يَبغي انتِقاماً واري الأَحقادِ

    And lay on the sand for all to see

    Then Thoas charged the foe with a stab

  43. وَلَجَت بأَعلى ثَدِيهِ في صَدرِهِ

    وَقَفَت عَلى رِئَةٍ بِنَصلٍ بادي

    Seeking vengeance, full of burning hatred

  44. فَدَنا وأَخرَجَها وسَلَّ حُسَامَهُ

    وبِجَوفِهِ واراهُ غَيرَ مُمَادِ

  46. فَذَوُوهُ مَن وُسِمُوا بعَقصِ غَدَائِرٍ

    طَلَبُوهُ مُندَفِعينَ للأندَادِ

  47. فَنشَاطُهُ وثَبَاتُهُ ما أَغنَيا

    أَن عادَ مُنثِينياً بِغَيرِ تَهادي

    Charged for him, rushing at the enemy

    But his vigor and steadfastness did not avail

  48. فكذَا ثَوى النِّدَّانِ مَولَى إِيفيا

    وثِراقَةٍ قَتلاً بِذاكَ النَّادي

    That he returned, carried without resistance

    So perished the lord of the Trhacians and Epia

  49. وَعَلَيهِما تَنهالُ مِن قَومَيهمَا

    أَجسَادُ قَتلَى باشتِباكِ أَعادي

    Murdered in that ravine

    And upon them the bodies of their slain people fell

  50. لَو كانَ بَينَ صُفُوفِهِم راءٍ يَرى

    ويَجُولُ بَينض مَواقِفِ الأَشهادِ
