1. فَقالَ أَغامَمنُونُ أَخطَأتُ إِنَّما

    أَصَبتَ بِتَثرِيبي ولَستُ بِمُنكِرِ

    Agammemnon said, "I was wrong,

    you chided me rightly, I do not deny it.

  2. فَإِنَّ فَتىً زَفسُ اصطَفَاهُ وزادَنا

    وَبالاً لِمَنآهُ يُقاسُ بِعَسكَرِ

    For a brat we nurtured and increased

    is a curse to whoever matches our army.

  3. عَثابيَ داعي الشَّرِّ حَتَّى أَهَنتُهُ

    وَعلِّيَ غِن أَستَغفِرِ الذَّنبَ يَغفِرِ

  4. سَأُتحِفُهُ غُرَّ الهَدَايا وكُلُّكُم

  5. مَناضِدَ سَبعاً لَم تَرَ النَّارَ جُدَّداً

    وعِشرِينَ طَسًّا ساطعاتٍ لِمَنظَرِ

    Seven tables that have not seen fire,

    and twenty shining basins for display.

  6. ومِن ذَهَبٍ يَغلُو شَواقِلَ عَشرَةً

    وخَيرَ جيادٍ تُحرِزُ السَّبقَ ضُمَّرِ

    Of gold ten heavy shards

    and the best steeds that win repeated races.

  7. فَيُحرِزُها اثنَي عَشرأَ جردَ سَلهَباً

    حَبَتني كُنُوزاً في السِّباقِ المُكَرَّرِ

    Twelve bays, slick haired, will win them

    as two treasures in the swift, recurring race.

  8. كُنُوزاً إِذا ما نالَها اَيُّما امرِىءٍ

    تَرَفَّعَ عَن شَكوَى شَجِيّةِ مُعسِرِ

    Treasures which if attained by any lord

    will raise him above the complaint of a pauper.

  9. وسَبعَ غَوانٍ فُقنَ حُسناً وصَنعَةً

    مِنَ اللاّءِ في لَسبُوسَ نالَ بِأَبتَرِ

    And seven fair robes shaped and woven

    from sheer linen in Lesbos attained seamlessly.

  10. وقد كُنَّ لي سَهماً وذلكَ عِندَما

    تَوَلَّى عَلَيها بالطِّعانِ المُدَمِّرِ

    Once they were mine, at the time

    when he turned on them with a destroying spear.

  11. كَذاكَ بَرِيسا مُقِسماً وَمثُقِّلاً

    بأَنِّي إِلَيها القربَ لَم أَتَصَوَّرِ

    So too Briseis I vow weighed down

    that I never imagined having her close.

  12. فَهذِى صِلاتي اليَومَ يُحرِزُها وإِن

    نَنَل دَكَّ إِليُونٍ بِحُكمٍ مُقَدَّرِ

    Let him keep these gifts of mine today, even if

    we take Ilium by fated decree.

  13. نُضَاراً وصُفراً يُؤتَ مِلءَ سَفِينةٍ

    وعِندَ اقتِسامِ السَّبي بِالغِيدِ يَظفَرِ

    Twenty beauties, neither sallow nor pale, to fill a ship

    and at dividing the captives with the lot he will gain

  14. بِعِشرِينَ حُسناً فُقنَ غَيرَ هِلاَنَةٍ

    لَهُ بِانتِقَاها خِيرَةُ المُتَخَيِّرِ

    Twenty fair ones he chooses himself

    the finest of the choicest.

  15. وإِمَّا رَجَعنا لِلخَصِيبَةِ أَرغُسٍ

    يَكُونَنَّ صِهرِي بالمَقَامِ المُوَقَّرِ

    And once we return to fertile Argos,

    he will be my honored in-law.

  16. ثَلاثٌ بَناتي هُنَّ أَخرِيسَثِيمَةٌ

    ولَوذِيقُ أَفيَاناسُ مَن يَرضَ يَختَرِ

    I have three daughters: Chrysothemis,

    Laodice, and Iphianassa for him to choose.

  17. ولَستُ بِباغٍ مَهرَها وأَزِيدُها

    جَداً لَم يَجُد فيهِ مُنذُ أَدهُرِ

    And I am no miser in brides-price and will increase it

    beyond what anyone since time began has found.

  18. فَيُنزِلُهَا في دَارِ فِيلا وفَوقَ ذا

    مَدائِنُ سَبعٌ فَوقَ بَرٍّ مُعَمَّرٍ

    I will settle her in the house of Peleus and above that

    seven citadels on an age-old height.

  19. فِرِيسُ النُّقى إِيرا الزُّهُورِ وإِنيُفا

    وَقَرذَمِلا أَنثَا الفَجاجِ المُنَوِّرِ

    Cardamyle of the bright flowers, and Ire,

    Euneepa, and fair-ankled Credea

  20. وإِيفِيةُ الحَسناءُ فِيداسُ وإِنيُفا

    وقَرذَمِلا أَنثا الفَجاجِ المُنَوِّرِ

    and lovely Ifea, Phila and fair-ankled Credea

    and lovely Ifea like a fruitful vine

  21. وإِيفيَةُ الحَسناءُ فِيداسُ كَرمَةٍ

    إِزاءَ فِلوسَ الكلُّ في جُرفِ أَبحُرِ

    before the cliffs where all are engulfed in the sea

    who will free him of grave, perilous troubles

  22. يُجَلُّ بِأَلِيها كَرَبٍّ خُطُورَةً

    ويُؤتُونَهُ جَمَّ الخَرَاجِ المُقَرَّرِ

    and bring him the full tribute imposed.

    Spoils of war and cattle beyond number—

  23. غَنِيماً وأَبقَاراً تَناهى عَدِيدُها

    فتِلكَ هِبَاتي فَليَلِن ثُمَّ يَحضُرِ

    these are my gifts. Let him yield and then come."

    So every angry man except Acesimus was pleased.

  24. فَكُلُّ مَغِيظٍ غِيرِ آذِيسَ يَرتَضي

    لذَاكَ قلاهُ الخَلقُ عَن شَرِّ مَخبَرِ

    For this the people said he was far from evil report.

    "Enough rage since I was greatest in rank

  25. كَفى حَنَقاً مُذ كُنتُ أَعظَمَ رِفعَةً

    واكثَرَ أَيَّاماً ليَذعَن ويُقصِرِ

    and lived many days that he may yield and shorten sail.
