صَمَتُوا فَقامَ فَتًى دَعَوا ذُولُونَ أُو

ميذٍ فَبرَّزَ بالنَّفائِسِ يَطمَعُ

They fell silent, then stood a young man they called, with ululations, Auwa

A lad who put forth priceless treasures greedily

فَيجٌ تَوَفَّرَ عِندَهُ بِخَزائِنٍ

فُولاذُهُ ونُضَارُهُ المُتَجَمِّعُ

Shining swords amassed with him in chests

An only son of his father's, for five foes

وَوَحِيدُ والِدِهِ لِخَمسِ شَقائِقٍ

أَعداهُمُ جَرياً وَوَجهاً اَشنَعُ

He had prepared them for flight or for ruinous war
