1. قد أصبحت تحسد الأحياء موتاها

    لما غدت دوحة التوفيق إحداها

    The living now envy the dead their demise

    Since the palm tree of divine aid became one of them

  2. كريمةٌ نورها يعلو على شفق ال

    نور الذي باسمه المبرور سماها

    A noble whose light transcends the dawn glow

    The light that the Blissful named it with His name

  3. واحسرتاه على شمس تناولها

    من عرشها جدث وارى محيّاها

    And I lament the sun whose death it witnessed

    From its throne a corpse that enlivened it

  4. لو غابت الشمس والأقمار قاطبةً

    والعين تنظرها استغنت بمرآها

    If the sun and all the moons were to disappear

    And the eye still beholds it, it would suffice with its reflection

  5. لا أبصرت عينَ شمسٍ عينُ غانيةٍ

    لم تبك غايبة الشمسين عيناها

    No eye has seen a sun, nor Ghaniya’s eye

    That did not weep the loss of the two suns, her eyes

  6. ولا سقى اللَه من لم يسق مدمعه

    منازلاً سُقيت من سيل نعماها

    May Allah not quench the thirst of one who did not wet

    With his tears the dwellings flooded by His blessings

  7. ويل العفاة وويل القايلات لنا

    صار الدعاء بديلاً من عطاياها

    Woe to the heedless, woe to those who told us:

    Supplications have become a substitute for her grants

  8. يا مصر أين التي بالعسجد انتعلت

    وبالكمال إله العرش حلّاها

    Oh Egypt, where is she who donned determination

    And with perfection, the God of the Throne adorned her

  9. صار التراب بديلاً من غلايلها

    وصار بعد عناها اللحد مغناها

    Dust has become a substitute for her fine silks

    And the grave after her has become its lyric

  10. ليعمل العاقل النحرير ما عملت

    من الصلاح الذي أرضت به اللَه

    Let the sensible do the good that she did

    With which she pleased Allah

  11. عساه يدرك بالتقوى مكانتها

    ويحتظي بجواره اللَه مولاها

    Hopefully through piety he will attain her status

    And live under Allah’s protection, his Master

  12. واللَه لو نظرت أحوالنا لبكت

    عنا وقالت دعوا وابكوا الذي تاها

    By Allah, if she saw our state she would weep

    For us and say: Stop, weep for the one who wandered

  13. وما اقتنى بفعال الخير سابغةً

    لا يهمل اللَه مخلوقاً تردّاها

    One who did not acquire good deeds perfected

    Allah does not neglect a creature who supplicates Him

  14. أتحزنون على من قدمت عملاً

    كادت تداوي به الأحياء موتاها

    Do you grieve over one whose deeds nearly

    Healed the living their demise?

  15. وخلفت أسداً للَه تخلفه

    أسود غاب لدين اللَه ربّاها

    She left behind a lion of Allah that succeeded her

    Lions that disappeared for the sake of Allah, Who raised her

  16. خفّض عناك إمام المتقين فكا

    سات اليقين جميع الناس تسقاها

    Lower from us the Imam of the pious so cups of certainty

    Can quench all people’s thirst from its draft

  17. أبوك آدم والهادي ترشَّفها

    وسوف ترتشف الدنيا بقاياها

    Your father Adam and the Guide—an honor for her

    And the world will gain from her remnants

  18. لا زال مضجعها يروى بماطرةٍ

    تفيض من رحمة الباري نعاماها

    Her resting place is still watered with a rain

    Pouring from the Most Kind’s mercy, His blessings

  19. وجادك اللَه بالصبر الجميل ولا

    برحت يا كوكب الدنيا لنا جاها

    May Allah grant you beautiful patience, and you have not

    Ceased being a star, shining for us, O noble one
