O breeze of fragrance from her abode
Are your breaths from two homes or from her watering place?
And you, O lightning, who has confined you towards a towering cloud,
Is it the death of slumber or its folds?
And O dove of ardour, did you teach my charmer
To complain of her Lord or were you taught her complaints?
How wonderful! Neither the distance nor the habitation distracted you
A day, nor did the pouring rain drive you away in frenzy
Nor did anguish like mine, of misery and love sickness, affect you
If part of it touched the water courses, it would have flooded them
This is your paradise, delighted with light
While my paradise is in the gardens of glory as its refuge
By God, O breezes of fragrance, describe for her
My longing when you are permitted and goodness is its price
Perhaps a garden of roses was veiling her from me
The veil will show her to me in her splendour
It would then dispel my harm just as
The hand of the prince dispelled worries I feared
