    أم نور وجه ثريا الكوكب البشري

    The light of the chandelier faded under the stone canopy

    Or is it the light of Thurayya's bright human star face that faded?

  2. نور التي دجت الدنيا لغيبتها

    لما نعاها كسوف الشمس والقمر

    The light that illuminated the world disappeared when she was absent

    As if the sun and moon were eclipsed when she passed away

  3. غزالة كان نور الحسن إن سفرت

    بآية الأنس يمحو آية الكدر

    If the light of her beauty traveled

    It would erase the sign of sadness with the sign of intimacy

  4. ما كان أشنع يوماً قيل فيه ثوت

    تلك الغزالة ذات الطوق والأُزُرِ

    No day was uglier than the one when it was said, "Thurayya is dead"

    The gazelle with the necklace and bracelets

  5. ما كنت أحسبني أبقى وقد سقطت

    علي صاعقةٌ من ذلك الخبر

    I did not expect to live after she fell

    Struck down by the news like a lightning bolt

  6. يا لوعتي يا عذابي ما بقيت لغي

    ر الهم والغم والأحزان والسهر

    Oh my agony and torture, nothing remains except

    Sorrow, gloom, sorrows and sleeplessness

  7. واحسرتاه على ذاك الجمال وذي

    ياك الدلال وذاك المنظر النضر

    And what a loss - her beauty, charm and radiance

    Her kindness and refinement that fate snatched away

  8. وحلية اللطف والظرف التي خطفت

    أجداثُ زحلة منها أكرم الدرر

    Taking the finest pearls from her

    She was not pleased that her bed was made of satin

  9. ما كان مهد ثريّا اللدن يعجبها

    ما بالها اتخذت مهداً من الحجر

    Why did she take a bed made of stone?

    There is no difference between a covered grave or one exposed

  10. لا فرق بين تقٍ ثاوٍ به وشقٍ

    أو بين ذي فاقةٍ عارٍ وبين سري

    Neither between a destitute disgraced man or an honorable one

    I did not expect that the sun would set in a coffin

  11. ما كنت أحسب أن الشمس تغرب في

    نعشٍ تسير به السادات للحفر

    Carried by nobles to be buried

    Until a grave takes her from her coffin

  12. حتى تناولها من نعشها جدثٌ

    في بطن زحلة لم يشفق على بشر

    Without pity for a human in the belly of the earth

    What grief is not gathered for her?

  13. فأي حزنٍ عليها غير مجتمعٍ

    وأي دمعٍ عليها غير منتثر

    What tears are not shed?

    What patience is not scattered?

  14. وأي صبرٍ عليها غير مفترقٍ

    وأي قلبٍ عليها غير منكسر

    What heart is not broken?

    By God, one created like her with such character

  15. باللَه يا لحدُ دامت مثلها خُلقت

    تفترُّ عن لؤلؤٍ في خاتم عطر

    Scattering pearls from a scented ring

    As long as her splendor lasted has passed and faded away

  16. ودام رونقها أم باد وانصرفت

    عنها حلاوة ذاك الناظر الحوري

    The sweetness of that lovely gaze has abandoned her

    Be gentle with her, be gentle, her fingers

  17. ارفُقْ بها ارفق فقد كانت أناملها

    تكاد من ترفٍ تدمى من الحَبَر

    Were almost wounded by the softness of ink

    Have mercy on a jasmine that had mercy

  18. واشفق على ياسمينٍ كان ذا شفقٍ

    في روض وجنتها من وردة الخفر

    In the garden of her soul on the rose of the dagger

    Oh death, you doubled my sorrows over my son

  19. ضاعفت يا موت أحزاني على ولدي

    بها وبنتي ولم تترك ولم تذر

    And over her and my daughter - and did not stop or refrain

    Why do the tears, without whose bitterness

  20. ما للدموع التي لولا ملوحتها

    أغنت خضارمها الدنيا عن المطر

    Earth’s greens would lack rain

    Flow to drown me while grief assists them

  21. تجري لتغرقني والحزن يسعفها

    لم لا تكفكفها عني يد الحذر

    Why does the hand of caution not restrain them?

    After them, oh death, my drowning is disgraceful before me

  22. أهان ياموت عندي بعدهم غرقي

    نعم نعم هان لما بان مصطبري

    Yes, yes, it is lowly - after my composure was clear

    Oh Thurayya, I wish in your tomb I was

  23. يا ليتني يا ثريا في ضريحك أو

    يا ليته يا ثريّا كان في بصري

    Oh Thurayya, I wish it was in my sight

    Or I wish my soul’s final breath would redeem

  24. أو ليت كان الفدا يا مهجتي رمقي

    بيابس العشب يفدي يانع الشجر

    The withered grass to spare the fresh trees

    Your tomb, oh dewy branch, was watered with rain

  25. سقى ضريحك يا غصن الندى مطراً

    يفيض من رحمة الباري مع المطر

    Pouring from the mercy of the Creator with the rain

    And its Creator endowed you with green Heaven

  26. وجادك الجنةَ الخضراءَ خالقُها

    يا أحسن الناس من بدو ومن حضر

    Oh best of people, nomads and settled folk alike

    Oh Ayyub’s family, indeed patience is your

  27. يا آل أيوب إن الصبر إرثُكُمُ ال

    واقي من الذم والشافي من الضرر

    Inheritance - protecting from blame and harm

    Cure hearts with it, for it is their remedy

  28. داووا القلوب به فهو الدواء لها

    وهو الطريق لدار الفوز والظفر

    And the path to the abode of success and victory

    May God grant us beautiful patience and

  29. اللَه يلهمنا الصبر الجميل ويه

    دينا السبيل وينجينا من الخطر

    Guide us to the path and save us from danger

    Until we attain a reward with no decline

  30. حتى نفوز بأجرٍ لا زوال له

    في طاعة اللَه والإذعان للقدر

    In obeying God and surrendering to fate
