1. The heights of glory bloom through Muhammad al-Halabi,

    as Medina bloomed through the Arab Prophet.

  2. She seems, exalted though she is, a shell,

    while he seems made of fresh pearl.

  3. For though scabbards turn to gold,

    their blades shine brighter than gold.

  4. O son of Prophethood, you are its star;

    the consummate scholar is the peer of a prophet.

  5. Indeed, the noble chiefs—though you are their master—

    have not discharged even part of what they owe you.

  6. Be patient: the torrent’s beginning is

    a drizzle—and in drizzle there is no hardship.

  7. Almighty God will furnish you with whatever

    will please you in wealth and high office,

  8. and invest you with a rank before which all

    minds stand transfixed in wonder.

  9. You are a son of Ṭā Hā; we see no mortal

    more entitled or worthier than you of lofty ranks.

  10. Were the ages to speak, no utterance would come

    from time’s tongues except in praise of you.
