    Yet that delight has never yielded anything of worth.

  2. And a cry of “Welcome!” that robes the neighing steeds in splendor,

    Yet never has it mounted a charger’s back.

  3. The patron freely bestows it on every friend,

    Who grasps it only in fancy, never with his fingertips.

  4. I fancied that I saw it in a dream,

    And said, “When shall I find you in a hopeful hand?”

  5. She said, “I am distant as the Pleiades—

    And how far the Pleiades are from the hand that reaches!”
