أحبك يا أسما محبة ماجدٍ

أمينٍ على جيرانه غير خائنِ

I love you, O Asma, with the love of Majid

Who is faithful to his neighbors, not betraying

قريب من التقوى بعيد من الخنا

صبور على دل المهى غير خائن

Close to piety, far from wrongdoing

Patient with the bending boughs, not betraying

يطيع الهوى في كل شيءٍ يزينه

ولكنه يعصيه في كل شائن

He follows desire in all that adorns it

Yet disobeys it in all that is disgraceful

ومثلك للنفس النفيسة فتنةٌ

ومثلي شهيد المقلتين الفواتن

And you are, for the precious soul, a temptation

While I am a martyr for the two alluring ones

فحسنك يا أسما ولطفك كامل

أعيذهما باللَه من عين عائن

So your beauty, O Asma, and your kindness are perfect

I seek refuge for them with God from an envious eye

تفدِّيك من لبنان كل غريرةٍ

وكل غرير حول لبنان ساكن

Every charming one in Lebanon would ransom you

And every charming one around Lebanon dwelling

ومثلك لو يفدي بخيلٍ ومهجةٍ

فدتْك وربِّي مهجتي وصوافني

And if a stingy or hot-headed one would ransom you

I would ransom you - by God - my passion and yearning

تلافي تلافي بالخيال وآمني

عليه فعذالي نأت عن مساكني

Wishing, always wishing, in my imagination

Trusting it, so my torment came from my dwellings

ويا ليتهم داموا فما كان ضايري

وأنتِ أمامي قربهم من أماكني

Oh, if only they lasted, no harm would have come

While you are before me, bring them near my dwellings

لقد جادني الرحمن بالوجد كله

وجادك يا أسما بكل المحاسن

Truly the Merciful has granted me ecstasy entire

And granted you, O Asma, all beauty
