جلت صفاتك عن مكانة شاعر
يا كوكب العلم النفيس الباهر
Your qualities transcend those of an eminent poet
O shining star of precious knowledge
ما في انتخابك للجوائب حاجةٌ
كل الجوائب جنةٌ للناظر
You have no need to choose the best responses
For all your responses are a paradise for the beholder
وجواهرٌ جاءت لنا منظومة
من بحرك الوافي المديد الوافر
And jewels have come to us, articulated
From your bountiful, copious, abundant sea
فهي الكواكب لو تجود كواكب ال
أوج العظيم لنا بشيءٍ نادر
For if the stars were to give generously, the stars
Would not attain the sublime with something so rare
والطيب إلا أن ذلك زائلٌ
وعبيرها باقٍ ليومٍ حاشر
Except that it is ephemeral
And its fragrance endures to the Day of Reckoning
لا عيب فيها غير رقتها التي
تخزي الريا وترد روح الداثر
It has no shortcoming save its delicacy
Which shames the wind and revives the despondent soul
إني لأعجب وهي سحرٌ بينٌ
كيف انتمت لسليل حرٍّ طاهر
I marvel, it is manifest sorcery
How it has come from a free, pure lineage
عز النظير لفارسٍ منه ارتقى
فرس الفراسة كابراً عن كابر
Matchless to a horseman who ascended
The horse of insight valiantly over the valiant
الشهم أحمد فارس البحر الذي
سامى البحار بكل علم ذاخر
The intrepid Ahmad, horseman of the sea
Who rendered the seas lofty with abundant knowledge
يا صاحب المجد الأثيل ولجة ال
علم الجليل وقيل كل معاصر
O you of timeless glory and an impregnable
Fortress of majestic knowledge and all contemporaries' speech
ما قالت الشعراء مثلك عند ما
أنشدت في مدح المليك الصابر
No poets have spoken like you when
You recited in praise of the steadfast King
شيئان لا نجد التصبر عنهما
حبي هواك ومدح عبد القادر
Two things we cannot bear patience from
My love for you and praise of Abd al-Qadir
فعليك من مولاك ألف تحيةٍ
ترضيك من لدن الإله القادر
From your Master upon you a thousand greetings
To please you from the All Powerful God
وعلى السليم اسماً وفعلاً مثلك ال
أسمى وأسمح من ملثٍّ ماطر
And upon the Sultan - by name and deed like you -
The most lofty and clement, from a pouring cloud
فبه الجهات الست أشرق نورها
إشراق وجهك بازديار الزائر
By him the six directions gleamed in his light
Like your face gleaming at the visitor's arrival
