1. إلهي لا يزيل سواك ضيري

    وغيرك لا يعاملني بخير

    My God, none but You can remove my affliction,

    And none but You can treat me with kindness.

  2. فأنت اللَه واهب كل خيرٍ

    وأنت اللَه كاشف كل ضير

    For You are Allah, the Giver of all good,

    And You are Allah, the Reliever of all suffering.

  3. بجاهك باقتدارك بافتقاري

    إليك بحرمة الحمل الغيور

    For Your sake, for Your power, for my need of You,

    For the sanctity of the jealous Lamb,

  4. وبالبكر التي شوهدت منها

    على خير السواعد والصدور

    And for the sake of the Virgin from whom appeared

    The Best of shoulders and chests.

  5. تحوِّل كل أفكاري لخيرٍ

    وتنقذني من الداء الدرير

    Turn all my thoughts to good,

    And save me from the grievous illness.

  6. فما لي غير جاهك من نصيرٍ

    وما لي غير عفوك من مجير

    For I have no helper but Your aid,

    And no refuge but Your pardon.

  7. أأقصد غير بابك يا إلهي

    وأطلب غير نائلك الغزير

    Shall I seek any but Your door, O my God,

    And ask from any but Your abundant gifts?

  8. وأسلم من مدافعةٍ وطردٍ

    وحرمانٍ وتحقيرٍ وضير

    I am resigned to rejection, expulsion,

    Deprivation, contempt, and suffering,

  9. ومن إلّاك يصفح عن ذنوبي

    ويفتح لي ويأذن بالعبور

    And who but You can forgive my sins

    And open the way for me and permit my passage?

  10. أنا الخاطي الذي ضيعت مالي

    وأيامي على شر الأمور

    I am the sinner who wasted my wealth

    And my days on the worst of matters.

  11. وما أذخرت لي عملاً حميداً

    يجمل حالتي يوم النشور

    And I stored up no good deed

    To adorn my state on the Day of Resurrection.

  12. ولكني فررت من المعاصي

    إليك بحلة الأمل النضير

    But I fled from disobedience to You

    In the garb of bright hope.

  13. فحقق يا مهيمن فيك ظني

    وسهل ما تعسر من أموري

    So fulfill my expectation in You, O All-Pervading,

    And facilitate what has become difficult of my affairs.

  14. فعفوك لا يضيق بمستجيرٍ

    وجودك لا يضن على فقير

    For Your pardon does not stint toward one who seeks refuge,

    And Your bounty does not withhold from the needy.

  15. ومن يدعوك في أمرٍ جليلٍ

    كم يدعوك في أمرٍ حقير

    He who calls You for a great matter,

    How much more does he call You for a trivial one!

  16. فررت إليك يا باري البرايا

    من الوجل المخيم في ضميري

    So I fled to You, O Excellent of wildernesses,

    From the terror that dwells in my conscience.

  17. فررت إليك من حمقي وجهلي

    ومن شرهي وتشبيبي وجوري

    I fled to you from my folly and ignorance,

    From my evil, my foolishness, and my tyranny.

  18. فررت إليك من لهوي وزهوي

    وما قدمت من صلفي وزوري

    I fled to You from my vanity and arrogance,

    And from what I offered of my insolence and falsehood.

  19. فررت إليك من ألم إليمٍ

    وخيمٍ لا يحدثني بخير

    I fled to You from a grief that brings no good,

    And from a care that relates to me no cheer.

  20. فررت إليك من خطرٍ خطيرٍ

    خشيت به على العفو الخطير

    I fled to You from a momentous danger,

    Which I feared for the precious pardon.

  21. على الكبد التي التهبت وكادت

    تذيب أسرَّتي وتدك دوري

    For the liver that was inflamed and almost

    Melted away my family and demolished my homes.

  22. دعوت لها الطبيب فقال ترك ال

    دواء دواء أمراض الصدور

    I called the doctor, and he said the sole

    Remedy, the remedy for diseases of the chest,

  23. وعرض بالصعود لأرض نجدٍ

    ومقصده النزول إلى الغوير

    Was to head up to the land of Najd

    And aim down for Al-Ghuwayr.

  24. فقلت له انصرف عني فربي

    يداويني ويسمح عن قصوري

    So I said to him, “Begone from me, for my Lord

    Will heal me and forgive my shortcomings.

  25. ويقبل لي شفاعة خير بكرٍ

    تريد سلامتي وتحب خيري

    And He will accept the intercession of the Best Virgin

    Who desires my well-being and loves my good.”

  26. مطهرةٍ لجوهره اصطفاها

    بلا دنسٍ من الحبل الطهوري

    Purifying her essence, He chose her

    Without taint from the immaculate conception.

  27. ففارقني الطبيب يقول إيهٍ

    هي المعوان في كل الأمور

    So the doctor left me, saying, “Far be it!

    She is the aide in all matters.”

  28. وبت أمد نحوك يا إلهي

    يد العبد الأسير المتسجير

    And I remain stretching my hand toward You, O my God,

    The hand of a captive prisoner in fetters.

  29. وجودك لا يرد يد افتقاري

    بلا صلةٍ من الكرم الشهير

    Your bounty does not refuse the hand of my need,

    Without some link to the famed generosity.

  30. فمالك يا مهيمن من شريك

    فنقصده ولا لك من نظير

    So what have You, O All-Pervading, of a partner

    That we should frequent him, for You have no equal?
