1. ما أشبه ألماها الزهري

    بشقيقٍ لاح على نهر

    Her beauty resembles a flower

    That shines on a river

  2. هيفاء بميم مقبلها

    عكف الياقوت على الدر

    With swaying grace and charm

    Ruby clings to her like a pearl

  3. بكرٌ تغنيك مراضبها

    عن كل معتقةٍ بكر

    A virgin whose glances delight you

    Above every unveiled virgin

  4. لا تعجب إن لانت وقست

    واستفت بذلك من يدري

    Be not surprised if she's coy and aloof

    Ask those who know of this trait

  5. فالخصر تكوَّن من ماء

    والقلب تكوّن من صخر

    For her waist is made of water

    And her heart is made of rock

  6. أقسمت بنرجس مقلتها ال

    مكحول بأميال السحر

    I swear by the narcissus of her eyelids

    Intoxicated by miles of sorcery

  7. وبكوكب غرتها الزاهي

    وبياض محياها البدري

    By the radiant star of her smile

    And the lunar whiteness of her cheek

  8. وبفرعٍ مال على كفلٍ

    كشراع سفين في بحر

    By the branch leaning on a shoulder

    Like a ship's sail on the sea

  9. وبرياها وثناياها

    ومزاياها البيض الغر

    By her bosom and curves

    And her alluring ivory traits

  10. ما ذقت حلاوة مبسمها ال

    معسول ولازمني صبري

    I've not tasted the sweetness of her smile

    That's so mellow, though it tries my patience

  11. لم أنس سويعة زورتها

    كالدرة تسطع في الأزر

    I can't forget that moment we met

    She shone like a pearl in necklaces

  12. إذ صار الحجل لنا حجلاً

    وأنين الكاس لنا قمري

    When the anklet became an anklet for us

    And the tinkling cup became my moon

  13. برياض ضرج سوسنها ال

    تبري بياقوت الخمر

    In gardens of liquefied myrrh is her lily

    That excels the ruby wine

  14. صبغت بالراح مواردها

    والفضة تصيغ بالتبر

    She scented her hair with basil

    While silver is dyed with metal

  15. عذراء العاذل يعذرني

    بهواها والوله العذري

    A virgin whose love reproaches me

    With passion and fervent desire

  16. كان الممتاح مراحمها

    كالطالب ماءً من جمر

    Her cheeks were generous with kisses

    Like a thirsty man seeking embers' water

  17. فغدت بالراح مراشفها

    أسخى وألذ من القطر

    So her cheeks became with basil

    More generous and sweet than droplets

  18. ويدي كالطوق لعاتقها ال

    موموق ومفرشها صدري

    And my hands like a necklace on her neck

    Polished and laid on my chest

  19. ما فرق بين فمي وفم ال

    نوار سوى نور الفجر

    No difference between my mouth and the

    Luminous dawn but the light of daybreak

  20. فقضى بالذم له بصري

    ولعبد القادر بالشكر

    So my eyes judged it with tears

    And for Abdel Qader with thanks

  21. حرم القصاد أبو الأمجا

    د حمى الورّاد رحى الكرّ

    Protector of pilgrims, Abu Al-Ajmam

    Who destroyed the tyrants, grinder of enormous armies

  22. جوّاد أسمح من معنٍ

    وأشد ثباتاً من عمرو

    Munificent, more generous than Ma'n

    And firmer than Amr

  23. لو يملك عمرو شجاعته

    ما فاز عليٌّ بالنصر

    If Amr possessed his courage

    Ali would not have won victory

  24. أو جاد بما جادت يده

    قارون لأصبح في فقر

    Or spent as he spent generously

    Qarun would have woken up poor

  25. ما أعذب راح خطابته

    ما الشهد وما القند المصري

    How sweet is the scent of his words

    More than honey and Egyptian sugar

  26. يوليك نداه ومنطقه

    فيفيض الدر على الدر

    His munificence and logic inspire you

    And pearls pour over pearls

  27. كالبحر تمد مكارمه

    لو دام البحر بلا جزر

    Like the sea extending his virtues

    As if the sea had no islands

  28. والروض بشوش الوجه إذا

    لم يخل الروض من الزهر

    The garden, radiant of face, will never

    Lack flowers and greenery

  29. فخر المريخ بصارمه

    والعبد يفاخر بالحرّ

    Pride of Mars with his sword

    And the slave prides in the freeman

  30. وشكا الفصّال يراعته

    والبيض تغار من السمر

    The orator envied his eloquence

    And the white envied the brown

  31. بك يا ابن المرسل من مضرٍ

    يعتز المعدم والمثري

    O son of Mudar's envoy

    The destitute and the wealthy admire you

  32. قل للآفات تفارقني

    وتحل بجليات الشر

    Tell troubles to leave me

    And beset the fortresses of evil

  33. فظلام الشام له عنق

    أولى بالنحر من النحر

    The darkness of Syria deserves

    To be slaughtered more than slaughter

  34. أخزاه اللَه وقاتله

    من والٍ أخبث من عبري

    May God disgrace and destroy him

    An emir more wicked than a Hebrew

  35. سموه ضياء شقائقه

    ليسر ويضحك من يدري

    They called the darkness of his tyranny a dawn

    To cheat and make fools of those who know

  36. ويقول الليل نهار البو

    م ونور خافيش القفر

    Saying the night is the day of the times

    And the light of the bat of wastelands

  37. لا دين سوى الدينار له

    دين المتشبث بالكفر

    No faith but the dinar for him

    The creed of one clinging to blasphemy

  38. لو تُعلِمُ رب فروق به

    أخليت الشام من الضر

    If Lord Furuk knew of him

    He would empty Syria of harm

  39. وتضاعف أجرك عند اللَ

    هِ وعمّ وجل عن الحصر

    And double your reward with God

    Boundless and without measure

  40. لازال نداك يزيل ظلا

    مَ العسر بمصباح اليسر

    Your help still removes the gloom of hardship

    With the lantern of ease

  41. وبقيت بقاء الدهر لنا

    يا طارد آفات الدهر

    And you remain for us forever

    O dispeller of the harms of fate
