Stars of a dark night, or fading stars?

Branches of a willow, or lances of chests?

The sun, or the sun of the Salaf you liken

Among the full moons, crystals of glass.

The moon makes you see its shape

Clearly on the plateau of flowing sand.

As if the water of beauty on his cheeks

Were pearls in the necklaces of virgins.

The eye did not know anything but its glance,

So it remains ignorant of the gesture of the gazelle.

Oh you who migrated and found refuge in my ribs,

I was destroyed by the abandoned and settled.

I did not expect, after the heaviness of passion,

That being turned away would be some of my reward.

If you wish, overlook my blood and defend it

From my tearful eyes, and build up my house.

Bring my mouth closer to yours and touch my eyes

With the whiteness of this camphor-like forearm.
