1. تقول وقد سقطت على حماها

    سقوطاً زادني شرفاً وجاها

    You say, as you fall upon her cheek

    A fall that brings me more honor and esteem

  2. أضيفٌ قلتُ ضيفٌ مستهامٌ

    يريد العامرية لا سواها

    I said, a guest, enthralled

    Seeking only Al-Aamiriyya and none other

  3. فأسفر وجهها بعد انقباضٍ

    وقالت وهي تبسم في خباها

    So her face brightened after frown

    And she said, smiling in her coyness

  4. بكاس الراح تقنع قلت حاشا

    أريد الكاس فارغةً حشاها

    With a cup of comfort, you're satisfied, never!

    I want an empty cup to fill it up

  5. فكاد يصدها عني اقتراحي

    ويحرمني الورودَ على لماها

    So my request nearly turned her from me

    And deprived me of the roses in her reach

  6. ولكن قابلت جهلي بحلمٍ

    ينوِّل كل جارحةٍ مناها

    But I met my ignorance with patience

    That soothes each hurting limb

  7. ورقَّ حديثنا ودنوت منها

    وقد مدت لتدفئتي كساها

    Our talk grew tender, and I drew near her

    Extending her garment to warm me

  8. فبت معانقاً منها غزالاً

    يبرِّد باللمى مُهَجاً كواها

    I remained embracing a gazelle in her

    That cools with touch an inflamed love

  9. أشاهد من محاسنها رياضاً

    تفرِّح كل محزونٍ رآها

    I behold in her charms, gardens

    That delight every melancholy soul

  10. كأن عبيرها أنفاس شكري

    له ولكل جائزةٍ حباها

    As if her fragrance were Shukri's breaths

    Thanking her and each gift she's endowed

  11. فتى لسماحه نفسٌ نفيسٌ

    ينفس عن حشى العاني عناها

    A generous soul, so fine and noble

    That relieves the grieving their laments

  12. وآراءٍ حسانٍ لو جلاها

    على البيضاء ما حسدت سواها

    And beautiful visions - if revealed

    None would envy them but her, I avow

  13. بثانية المراتب حلَّ لكن

    يد الأولى له ألقت بُرَاها

    With second place, she's content, though

    The first's hand did cast away her veil

  14. ولو تعطى على قدر المزايا ال

    مراتبُ صار للظرفاء شاها

    And if given her due merits, no station

    Would be left for others, she'd be queen

  15. تهنَّ ابنَ الكرام بعيد فطر

    بنورك لا بفطرته تباهى

    Rejoice my lady, not for Eid's dawn

    But for your light that makes this day shine

  16. يود هلاله لو صار سيفاً

    تشق لك الشآم به الشياها

    The crescent wishes it were a sword

    To cleave through Damascus for your delight

  17. فقد باهت بك الأعيادَ نفسٌ

    نَهاها عن سوى التقوى نُهاها

    For through you, souls care not for Eid

    Forbidden from all but piety's way

  18. بقيت لنا وللأعياد عيداً

    يبلِّغ كلَّ نفسٍ مشتهاها

    You remain our Eid, and the feast's

    Taking each soul to what it desires
