Is it a garden's doves or a bright dove house?
Your singing comes from bangles with bracelets
Is it the valley's gazelle or the one who
Preceded the gazelle of dawn to you?
O good companion, time has blessed you with happiness
So reconcile after estrangement and aloofness
White, if she rebukes you, you’d think her
A lamp of light or a vessel of perfume
She took away your softness, and you knew no paradise but
That cheek—is it in Heaven or in the Fire?
So drink the pressed wine and the rose on her cheek
The perfume from the eloquent mouth
And submit to her as we submit to the wondrous
Eloquence of the angelic or the sorcerer’s spell
A forgiving one, his forgiveness heralds his generosity
And shows you a flashing cheek full of motley hues
The seven layers of sky would barter their stars
For his nature, if stars could be bought with dirhams
I’m too shy to tell my master—
My master, whose realm encompasses my poetry—
That none but God—praise be to Him—deserves
To own the souls of the righteous
And endowed him with the name Suleim, best exoneration
From all dishonor and heavy burdens
If the youth’s acts matched his name
The Creator of creatures wouldn’t claim to be the Creator
O son of nobles, you have attained the rank
Of Mars, he of the sharp and glittering blade
So submit and shed your blood, an honor for every station
For the secret lies in the dwellers, not the dwelling
