None were as soft as your branches, oh beautiful one,
Except your stature, my bliss, my blissful one,
With the passing days and the Nile from its banks,
Became harsher and drier than the withered Ghada trees.
Do not frown when you see an effigy,
Among the people, of the idols,
And leave your mentor, the leopard, though he taught you
That beauty lies in benevolence,
By God, the leopard is no mentor for you,
For the leopard is meant for frolicking,
Or do I excuse you in it, oh tender branch,
And this gazelle of the human race,
No! But I see you forgot the slap of Judhur,
Oh my ill-fated forgetfulness the cause of oblivion.
