1. شقت دجى فرعها عن فرقها السحري

    فسبحت ورق واديها على الشجر

    The night's veil parted, unveiling its branches,

    So the leaves of its valley glided and swayed on the trees.

  2. وأقبلت تتجلى في غلائها

    كالغصن لو يتحلى الغصن بالدرر

    She approached, resplendent in her finery,

    Like a bough adorned with rows of pearls.

  3. يزفها بلبل الخلخال مبتهجاً

    زف المبشر بالإقبال والظفر

    The bulbul of her anklets sang joyfully

    A song foretelling the arrival of destiny and triumph.

  4. هركولة رتقت بالوصل ما فتقت

    ناب الصدود وشقت شقة الخطر

    Like an intrepid hero, she risked meeting me,

    Sundering obstacles and braving danger's path.

  5. فظلت ألثم موطاها ويحجبها

    عن ناظري بدني الممطور من بصري

    I continued kissing the place she trod,

    Though my teary eyes could not discern her form.

  6. كأنه غار من عيني على فُنُقٍ

    تغارُ منها حسان الحور والبشر

    As if, from my eyes, she hid in a cave

    Whose beauty the houris and nymphs envied.

  7. ما أطلعت مثلها الجوزاء نيرةً

    ولا حوى مثلها الإكليل من قمر

    Never did the star Capella rise with such brilliance,

    Nor the Crown shine with a moon so fair.

  8. ترنو بعين مهاةٍ كحلها حورٌ

    سحارة الجفن لم تترك ولم تذر

    Her languid eyes are tended by gazelles

    Whose charming glances leave nothing untouched.

  9. يقول شائمها للراح ما ابتسمت

    هذا هو الحبب الدرّيّ فاستتري

    When she smiles, the cynic says to the gentle breeze,

    "This is the beloved pearl, so veil it with care!"

  10. وإن شدت صاح شحرور الربى طرباً

    لم تحكها يا هزار الروض فاقتصر

    When the vines of the valley trill with joy,

    Do not disturb her, O murmuring stream, but be patient.

  11. كأنها جنة حفّ الجمال بها

    فقام فيها مقام الزهر والثمر

    She is a garden of beauty the Almighty has preserved,

    Where flowers and fruits stand in place of stars.

  12. ذلت لأردافها الكثبان من كبرٍ

    وعزَّ في صدرها الرمان من صغر

    Mountains bow before her hips in awe,

    While her bosom makes pomegranates blush in modesty.

  13. لو شامها حارس البستان قال لها

    سرقت رمانتي نهديك من شجري

    If the gardener sensed her fragrance, he would say

    "You have stolen the perfume of my garden and trees!"

  14. لها يدٌ لو تعرَّت من دمالجها

    سالت تبارك واقيها من الخطر

    When her hand is bared of its plumes,

    Blessings flow from it, protected from harm.

  15. وقامة كشطاط الرمح لينةٌ

    طوع العناق وطوع اللهو والسمر

    Her posture is slender like a spear,

    Pliant to embrace, play, and conversation.

  16. ضممتها ضم مشتاق بلا حذرٍ

    ضم المخاطر بين الخوف والحذر

    I gathered her to me impetuously, without caution,

    Embracing peril between fear and daring.

  17. وقلت هل منحٌ يحظى بها سمِحٌ

    من لائميه ومن دين السلوِّ بري

    I asked, "Is there a noble man who merits her,

    Despite the reproaches of the vile and base?"

  18. أذابه الشوق حتى لا تكاد ترىال

    عُوّاد صورته من شدة الغير

    Passion melted him until her visage

    Could scarcely be discerned for the agony of love.

  19. فأتلعت لعناقي جيد جاذيةٍ

    كأنه طلعةٌ عنها الغلاف ذُري

    She inclined to me a tempting neck,

    As if she had shed the covering from a bud.

  20. وأودعت بيد الضرغام عاتقها

    ولم تخف فتكة الضرغام في العفر

    She entrusted her shoulder to my caress,

    Fearing not the destruction of my passion.

  21. حتى إذا انقرض الديجور وانتفض ال

    عصفور وانبسط الشحرور في الشجر

    When the lamps were extinguished and the birds were still,

    When the vines stretched calmly across the trees,

  22. ودعت شمساً على غصنٍ على جبل

    أبهى من الصبح في ليلٍ من الحبر

    When she bid farewell to a sun on a branch

    More splendid than dawn in the darkest night,

  23. وقلت للعين والحادي يمر بها

    بانت سعاد ولاح الفجر فانفجري

    I said to my eyes, as she left,

    "Good fortune has appeared and dawn has broken."

  24. فصير القادر الأجفان في لججٍ

    حاكت ندى عبده السمح السخيْ المضري

    So the Almighty set my eyelids in torrents

    That vied with the streaming tears of the devout servant.

  25. الثابت العزم والأبطال في قلقٍ

    والراسخ الحزم والألباب في حيَر

    May you remain, O noble pillar, resolute,

    Though heroes falter and minds wander in confusion,

  26. والمنهل الصارم البتار نهلته

    من قمّة الرأس أو من قلة البصر

    O severest censor whose righteous wrath descends

    From the pinnacle of principle or dearth of vision.

  27. مولى يخوض الوغى والليل معتكرٌ

    على سنا ذابلٍ أو صارمٍ ذكر

    You charge into the fray when darkness falls,

    With a fading spear or persistent memory.

  28. بسابحٍ لا يكاد الطرف يدركه

    يقول للبرق سر مهلاً على أثري

    You say to the lightning, "Wait for me, my friend,

    On my trail," while none can descry your approach.

  29. كأنه تخت ملك فوق ملكٌ

    لا يأخذ النفس إلّا أخذ مقتدر

    You are a king mounted on a king,

    Who breathes only by the will of the Almighty.

  30. كأن نسر الدراري فوق غرته

    مقيدٌ أو قصيص الريش لم يطر

    You are an eagle in its nest,

    Its wings bound, unable to take flight.

  31. يرمي العداة بما تذري سنابكه

    من الثرى فترى نبلاً من الحجر

    With your arrows you smite the foe,

    Pelting them with rocks and pebbles.

  32. وصارمٍ كقضاء اللَه منحدرٍ

    على العواتق والهامات والطرر

    Your bare blade descends like the judgment of God

    Upon the proud, the prestigious, and the mighty.

  33. مخلولق بدم اللبات تحسبه

    بين الكماة لساناً مد من سقر

    Stained with the blood of heroes, some may mistake it

    For a tongue unleashed from the inferno of hell.

  34. فضَّ السوابغَ من عاداته ذكرٌ

    في فرج كل دلاص غير مندحر

    With it your glory has torn through countless champions,

    Routing the squadrons before the walls.

  35. يسطو به وبحيات القنا أسدٌ

    جمُّ الرماد شديد الساعدين جري

    Warriors crowd around it unafraid,

    Heedless of fear or caution.

  36. يفتض أبكار أقمار الحصون على

    نور البواتر بالعسالة السمر

    Only lions spawn heroes like you,

    Whose valiance is sharper than their fangs.

  37. لا يتقي لهب البارود منحدراً

    كالسيل يفتق جيب الليل بالشرر

    You unsheathe the sword for God since childhood,

    Bringing joy after despair with your triumphs.

  38. تخاله وهو فردٌ من مهابته

    في فيلقٍ من ليوث الغاب منتشر

    You never accept the oppressor's call to injustice,

    Nor sell aid to the oppressed for riches.

  39. ألية بالهجان الشدقمية يق

    طعن السباسب نحو الركن والحجر

    Thus the West becomes a flourishing East through your splendor -

    The jihad nurtured by your wisdom.

  40. والصافنات عليها القوم معتسفيْ

    عرض الفلا لا أولى خوف ولا حذر

    You have freed souls from every sin

    As pure white is cleansed of all dirt.

  41. ما أولد المجد من بكر العلى أسداً

    إلّاه أفتك من صمصامه الذكر

    You continued to wage holy war until dissension

    Among the Muslims betrayed the Lord of Men.

  42. سلَّ الحسام لدين اللَه من صغرٍ

    ومتع الناس بعد اليأس بالظفر

    You sheathed your sword and chose Damascus,

    As you once chose Medina when fleeing Mecca.

  43. ولم يجب دعوة الداعي لمظلمةٍ

    ولم يبع نصرة المظلوم بالبُدَر

    You found solace in patience and its bitterness,

    Submitting to the will of God and fate.

  44. فأصبح الغرب شرقاً زاهياً ببها

    ذاك الجهاد الذي أربى على الفكر

    He who arms himself with sublime patience

    Wins victory and grace from the Divine.

  45. جلا النفوس به من كل موبقةٍ

    كما جلا البيض جاليها من الكدر

    Perhaps the day of arduous Hunayn will be followed

    By the triumphant dawn of Badr, by God's decree.

  46. ولم يزل غازياً حتى طغت فرقٌ

    للمسلمين وخانت خالق البشر

    O Kaaba of munificence, whoever loves you

    Attains the pleasure of God and perfect worship.

  47. فأغمد السيف واختار الشآم كما اخ

    تار المدينة لما هاجر المضري

    So accept, my lord, my poetry

    Though lost among the melodies of songstresses.

  48. ولاذ بالصبر واستحلى مرارته

    مسلماً لقضاء اللَه والقدر

    Nothing pleases me but your approval, so if

    I attain it, I am adorned with purest pearls.

  49. ومن تدرع بالصبر الجميل قضى

    له الإله بفوز غير منبتر

    May your affection endure, for the darling of hearts depends on you

    And you inspire in her the most luminous thoughts.

  50. لعل يوم حُنين الصعب يعقبه

    نهار بدرٍ ويقضي اللَه بالظفر

    Remain forever generous, gracious and kind,

    The most perfect creature God has made.

  51. يا كعبة الجود من لباك فاز بما

    يرضي الإله وأضحى خير معتمر

  52. فاقبل حجيج ثنائي من مخدرةٍ

    تاهت على غانيات البدور والحضر

  53. لا شيء يعجبها إلّا رضاك فإن

    فازت به مهرت باللؤلؤ النضر

  54. دامت تودك أبكار القريض ولا

    زالت تدر لك الأفكار بالدرر

  55. ودمتَ أسمحَ موموقٍ وأملح مر

    موقٍ وأنجح مخلوقٍ من البشر
