1. صبٌّ يحاول من لماك الراحا

    مس الشقيق فورد التفاحا

    The morning breeze tries to steal some comfort

    And touches the peach, so the apple blossoms.

  2. أم كلما بث الرحيق شعاعه

    في فيك ضرج خدك الوضاحا

    Or whenever its fragrance radiates

    Delighting your cheek with its glow.

  3. فدّيت من قمرٍ يطوف بكوكبٍ

    صارت له شمس الظهيرة راحا

    I ransom the moon that revolves around a planet

    That made the noonday sun set at ease.

  4. وكأنها من جلنار خدوده

    خجلت فصار بهارها قدّاحا

    As if it was embarrassed by his soft cheek

    So its springtime blushed into flame.

  5. سيان خنصره الرقيق وخصره

    لو شاء لاتخذ الختام وشاحا

    His slender waist and hips are the same

    If he wished he could take a seal and sash.

  6. حاكت لواحظه النصال وإنما

    وجت النفوس وعافت الأشباحا

    His glances wrote upon swords yet only

    Slaughtered souls and healed spectres.

  7. وحكت بشاشته الرياض وإنما

    ما أنبتت للعاشقين فلاحا

    His smile adorned meadows, though truly

    It never grew any crops for lovers.

  8. ترك الرقاد على العباد محرماً

    لكنه جعل السهاد مباحا

    He forbade slumber upon servants

    But made pillows permissible.

  9. لو شاهد السفاح لأْمة حسنه ال

    وضاح بايع لحظه الجراحا

    If the killer saw his nation’s beauty

    He would stop fighting and dress his wounds.

  10. خل الكؤوس وعاطني يا فاتني

    قبل الشموس رضابك الفياحا

    Leave the cups and give me, my temptress,

    Kisses before the radiant sun rises.

  11. عرف اللمى قبل الفطام فخال ما

    يعطاه من ريق المدام قراحا

    The babe knew before weaning what

    Milk his mother’s breast would give.

  12. قلبي يحدثني بأنك واصلي

    عجل ولا تدع الحديث مزاحا

    My heart tells me you are my companion

    Come quickly and do not jest in your words.

  13. ودع الدلال أو الملال فواحدٌ

    يكفيك ألفاً إن أردت كفاحا

    Leave coquetry and boredom for one

    Is enough for you if you seek struggle.

  14. هذي خدودك بالعذار تدرعت

    لقتال من خال الهوى مزّاحا

    To fight whoever jests of love.

    As if your cheek beneath your gaze is

  15. وكأن خالك تحت لحظك خادم

    وافى ليحمل للأمير سلاحا

    A servant who brings weapons for the prince.

    A king crowned with righteousness and piety

  16. ملك تتوج بالصلاح وبالتقى

    نسخ الطلاح وأثبت الإصلاحا

    Cancelled mischief and established reform.

    The west he conquered, its light never

  17. ما فارق الغرب المفارق نوره

    من راحتيه العارض السياحا

    Left his traveling, fleeting camps.

    No, nor did the homes of widows close

  18. كلا ولا انقفلت بيوت أرامل

    دامت لهن هباته مفتاحا

    While his gifts remained their key.

    All the lands are his lands, if you are just,

  19. كل البلاد بلاده إن أنصفت

    وهو العهاد لها غدا أو راحا

    And he is their pillar, tomorrow and today.

    His generosity opened minds to poetry

  20. فتح القرائح للقريض بجوده

    فغدت تسبح ربها الفتاحا

    So they praise their opening Lord.

    And they sought to grasp the essence of his traits

  21. وتطلبت إدراك كنه صفاته

    فرأت هناك المعجز الفضاحا

    Yet only the magnificent, healing sea was found.

    His traits are like the sea where some can be grasped

  22. فصفاته كالبحر يدرك بعضها

    والبعض منها يغرق السباحا

    While others drown the swimmer.

    One such as Abdul Qadir the hero who

  23. من مثل عبد القادر البطل الذي

    ملأ البلاد مهابةً ونجاحا

    Filled the lands with awe and success.

    For he is the one Marrakesh knew by name

  24. فهو الذي عرفت مراكش باسمه

    لما غدت لمحاربيه جناحا

    When it became a refuge for his warriors.

    His swords played with the skulls of villains

  25. لعبت بهامات اللئام سيوفه

    وبنت لهم بجهنم صفاحا

    And built them a hellish charnel house.

    As if he threaded lightning through his sword

  26. فكأن سلك البرق في صمصامه

    للنار يقذف كل راس طاحا

    To hurl fire at each fallen head.

    How many horsemen did the sword enrich with their heads

  27. كم فارس غنى الحسام برأسه

    ضحكت مطامعه عليه فناحا

    While their greed laughed at them, wailing?

    If not for our leader’s oath, the Indian

  28. لولا يمين أميرنا ما خضبت

    بدمائه الهنديةُ الصحصاحا

    Swords would not be stained with blood.

    And how many wronged youths he forgave

  29. ولكم فتى عانٍ عفى عنه العنا

    وجنى له جاني الصفا الأفراحا

    And reaped for them the harvest of joy.

    He obtained not, unless attaining his wishes,

  30. ما نال لولا نال مولانا المنى

    وثنى عنان عنائه وارتاحا

    And pulled back the reins of his troubles and rested.

    O angerer of the heedless and pleaser of God, your

  31. يا مغضب اللاهي ومرضي اللَه ما از

    دادت صفاتك بالثنا إيضاحا

    Traits do not increase but to clarify.

    You have tongues amongst your noble creations

  32. لك من خلائقك الكريمة ألسنٌ

    تثني عليك وتوجب التمداحا

    That praise you and necessitate eulogy.

    You filled the volumes but they

  33. ملأت بطون الصحف إلّا أنها

    قد أعيت الشعراء والشرّاحا

    Exhausted the poets and explainers.

    You blunted, O lion, the envier's swords

  34. أكمدت يا ليث المعامع حاسدي

    ودفعت عني الفاجر النباحا

    And deflected the vicious barking from me.

    So I will praise you with praise, wandering, lost,

  35. فلأمدحنك مدح سارٍ تائهٍ

    مدت يد الهادي له مصباحا

    Until the guiding hand lights my lamp.

    Seeking your approval and desiring gifts.

  36. هذا المحرم جاء يا حرم التقى

    يبغي رضاك ويطلب الإمناحا

    So ordain upon it, each year, a return

    Where we meet you, bestowing blessings.

  37. فارسم عليه بكل عامٍ عودةً

    يلقاك فيها واهباً منّاحا

    May your days with you remain eternal

    And you remain for us a lamp and dawn.

  38. دامت بك الأيام دائمة الصفا

    وبقيت مصباحاً لنا وصباحا
