شُقَّ منه صَدْرٌ فأُخْرِج منه

عَلَقةٌ في صَمِيمِه سَوْداءُ

A chest was cleft, from it emerged

A clot of black blood in its core.

وبه تَمَّ خَلْقُه وتَقَوّى

قلبُه فِطْرَةً وزاد النّماءُ

With it his creation was completed, his strength intensified,

His heart was intrinsically pure, and it continued to grow.

فلِذا حاز جُرْأةً في اعْتدالٍ

وله حَبَّب الفتاةَ الفَتاءُ

Thus he gained courage with composure,

And the charming maiden was captivated by the gallant youth.

ما انْتفتْ هذه لتُكمْل خَلْقاً

نُكْتةٌُ ما اهْتدَى لها الحُكماءُ

This rib was not removed to complete a creation,

A subtlety the wise men were not guided to.

فعلى القلبِ دِرْعٌ عَزْمٍ حَصِينٌ

ولِلُبٍ عليه لاَمٌ وبَاءُ

Over the heart is a coat of strong determination,

And for the mind over it, a prevention and protection.
