1. عسى وقفة بالركب يا حادي الركب

    لأسأل ما بين المحامل عن قلبي

    O rider of the caravan, may you stop awhile

    So I can ask about my heart among the camel litters

  2. فعهدي به لما استقلت ركابكم

    وقد قال لنساري إلى طيبة سربي

    For I entrusted it to you when I started your journey

    And it said to my companions it would go to Tayba

  3. فناديتمو عند الأصائل بالسرى

    سحيراً فلباكم على عجل لي

    So you called it at nightfall in Sari

    Hurrying, so it responded quickly to me

  4. وخلقتم المضني على صب دمعه

    غراماً فقل ماشئت في الصب والصب

    And you made me suffer shedding its tears

    In love, so say what you wish about the pouring and outpouring

  5. ويمتموا أرض الحجاز فحسبكم

    بلغتم مناكم والأسى بعدكم حسبي

    And you reached the land of Hijaz, so it’s enough for you

    That you attained your homes, while yearning after you is enough for me

  6. كلانا سواء في السهاد وإنما

    تناءى بكم دوني السهاد لي القرب

    We are equal in longing, though longing

    Distinguishes you from me, nearness is mine

  7. غدا يبلغ الساري مناه وينقضي

    عناه ويخلو بالأسى الوادع الجنب

    Tomorrow the traveller will reach his destination and

    His yearning will cease while the one left behind remains full of sorrow

  8. وهل وادع في القوم من عقد الجوى

    بجفنيه ما بين الحواجب والهدب

    Is there any left behind among the tribe whose eyelids

    Have not shed tears between brow and eyelid?

  9. يقول الريح ظن أن قد سرت بهم

    أرحت الجوى هبي على كبدي هبي

    The wind says it thought it carried them

    Comforting my love – blow upon my chest, blow!

  10. وقد تقعد الأقدار من قل حظه

    على أنه وافى الهوى وافر الحب

    Fate may let down the one whose lot is little

    Though he was true to love and abundant in passion

  11. ولكنني لم آتهم في تأخري

    على كثرة الأسباب شيئاً سوى ذنبي

    But I did not come to them though my excuses were many

    Except for my sin, nothing else

  12. ولولاه ما نادى المنادي إلى الحمى

    وما أنا في أولى الركائب والركب

    And were it not for that, the caller would not call to the valley

    Nor would I be among the first riders and caravan

  13. فإن تعتب الأيام لم تبق ليإذا

    بلغت المني منهم على الدهر من ذنب

    If the days blame me, no sin of mine

    Will remain when I reach their camp throughout time

  14. وأبسط آمالي وأوقن باللقا

    وأهتف من عجبي بحادي السرى عج بي

    I spread out my hopes and grow certain of meeting

    And cry out in wonder to the rider of the caravan – how amazing!

  15. فهل فيكم من حامل لي ضراعة

    إلى شافعي في يوم حشري إلى ربي

    Is there among you one who will carry for me a flag

    To my intercessor on the Day of my Gathering to my Lord?

  16. إلى خير مخلوق وأرأف مرسل

    وأشرف مبعوث إلى العجم والعرب

    To the best of creation and most merciful messenger

    And most noble envoy to non-Arabs and Arabs alike

  17. إلى خير خاف في البرايا وناعل

    وأكرم واط في الأنام على الترب

    To the best who walked the wilds in sandals

    And the most generous serving among people on the ground

  18. إلى خير من تشدو الرفاق بذكره

    فيسري الهوى والشوق منهم إلى النجب

    To the best whose companions reminisce of him

    So longing and fervor spread among them to the elite

  19. إلى صاحب الحوض الذي كان مؤمن

    سيروي غدا من فرط منهلة العذب

    To the owner of the Pond who, faithful,

    Will give drink tomorrow from his overflowing, sweet water

  20. إلى شافع العاصين عند الهم

    ومنقذهم في الحشر من غمرة الكرب

    To the intercessor for sinners in hardship

    And their rescuer at the Gathering from the pit of disaster

  21. ومن أنزل الرحمن ذكر صفاته

    وأمنه الوسطي على ألسن الكتب

    He who the Merciful revealed his attributes

    And his uprightness in the scriptures in all tongues

  22. وصرح عيسى باسمه وكذلك الكليم

    المناجي الرب بالجانب الغربي

    Jesus proclaimed his name and so did Kalim

    Praying to the Lord on the west side

  23. وإيوان مسرى شق والنار أخمدت

    لمولده والجن تقذف بالشهيب

    The wall of the Masjid was split and the fire quenched

    For his birth, and the jinn flung flaming stars

  24. وشاهدت الغلمان شق فؤاده

    فطيماً وتطهير الملائك للقلب

    The youths witnessed the splitting of his chest

    A blessing, as the angels purified his heart

  25. كذا شاهدت من بمنه أم معبد

    شويههتا العجفا تعج على الحلب

    Thus she witnessed who was Umm Ayman

    Milking the old camel, bouncing up and down

  26. وأنبا بظهر الغيب عن موت جيشه

    ومن مات منهم من نسيب ومن صحب

    He gave news of the unseen death of their army

    And who died of his relatives and companions

  27. وعن حالهم فيها إذا استشهدوا بها

    كراماً وما خصوا به من رضا الرب

    And of their state when martyred in it

    Honored and singled out by the pleasure of the Lord

  28. وعما جرى من أمر تامير خالد

    وسماه سيف الله للبأس والذب

    And of what transpired with commander Khalid

    Named by Him the Sword of God in valor and assault

  29. وأنبأ عن موت النجاشي إذ قضى

    وعن حاطب ذاك لمسامح بالذنب

    And he gave news of the death of the Negus when done

    And of Hatib and his pardoned sin

  30. وأن ليس كرسى بعج كسرى

    لفارس يقوم ولا ملك بدور على قطب

    That no throne remains like Chosroes’ throne

    For the Persian who rose nor rule revolved around an axis

  31. وفتح القصور البيض من أرض بابل

    لامته بعد اليسير من الحقب

    And the conquest of the white palaces of Babylon’s land

    After a short time from the periods

  32. نأسنة له الله الوسيلة في غد

    وصلى عليه من نبي ومن منبي

    Allah made the means easy for him tomorrow

    And prayers of every prophet and prophet sent

  33. وجاؤه يوماً وهو يخطب فاشتكوا

    إليه الذي هم فيه من شدة الخطب

    And they came to him one day complaining

    To him of the hardship they faced

  34. وإن الحيا قد شح والزرع قد ذوي

    وضرعهم بأمثال الجبال من السحب

    That cattle grew scarce and crops withered

    With mountains worth of clouds but no rain

  35. وجادت بصوب الغيث من كل جانب

    وتمت إلى السبوع دائمة السكب

    Clouds came from all sides

    Raining continuously until weeks passed

  36. فجاءوه يستصحونه فدعا لهم

    فولت بسقياهم إلى الدوح والعشب

    So they came to ask him to pray and he prayed for them

    Diverting the rain back to meadow and grass

  37. وإن حنين الجذع أبهر آية

    رآها جميع الصحب في المسجد الرحب

    The camel calf was a clear miracle

    All the companions saw in the vast mosque

  38. كذلك في شكوى البعير الذي أتى

    إليه ونطق الذئب والعير والضب

    Likewise when the camel came

    Speaking to him, as did the wolf and camel bull

  39. وجاءت له الشجار لما دعا بها

    وقال لها عودي فعادت على العقب

    The trees came when he called them

    And he said “return” so they returned to the hill

  40. وفي يوم بدر أنجدته على العدا

    ملائكة الرحمن في موقف الحرب

    On Badr’s day the Merciful’s angels gave him victory

    In the battle, surrounding the enemy

  41. وأعطي ببدر عود نخل عكاشة

    فألقاه من أمضى المهندة القضب

    At Badr he was given the palm trunk of Ukashah

    So he threw it, the hardest throwing arm

  42. وأعطي قضياً لابن ججش لدى الوغا

    فصار حساماً صادق الهز والندب

    And was given the verdict on Ibn Jusham in passion

    So it became in his hands an honest, striking blade

  43. كذاك غدا عود حباه ابن أسلم

    حساماً شديد الضرب لم يك عن ضرب

    Thus the staff granted to Ibn Aslam became

    A sword, strong in blows, never failing to strike

  44. فأعجب بها أسياف قدرة قادر

    غت قضيباً في فعلها وهي من قضب

    The swords of the Powerful’s power struck wonder

    Changing a staff by their actions though it was but a piece of wood

  45. ويوم حنين إذ رمت كفه العدا

    بحصبة عمت سائر القوم بالحصب

    At Hunayn when the enemy pelted his hand

    With a rock covering all the people with pebbles

  46. فولوا وأطراف القنا في ظهورهم

    تنوشهم ما بين جنب إلى صلب

    And they fled with the edges of swords at their backs

    Stabbing them between ribs and spine

  47. وفضلة ماء في إناء تدفقت

    أنامله منها بمنهمر عذب

    And leftovers of water in a vessel spilled over

    His fingers, so clear and fresh

  48. فروى بها جيش الصحابة فاكتفوا بما

    وردوه للوضوء وللشرب

    He quenched with it the army of companions, satisfied

    With what they drank for ablution and drinking

  49. وخص بأن عمت رسالته الورى

    فسارت مسير الشمس في الشرق والغرب

    Singled out in that his message encompassed all people

    Traveling like the sun from east to west

  50. وكانت له الأرض الفسيحة مسجداً

    يصلي بها في السهل منها وفي الهضب

    The vast earth was his mosque

    Praying across its plains and hills alike

  51. وصار تراب الأرض طهراً لنا به

    فمن لم يجد ماء تميمم بالترب

    The soil of earth became pure through him

    So without water one could do tayammum with dust

  52. وكان لدي الهيجا يؤيد بالصبا

    وينصر من شهر على الكفر بالرعب

    The Hijr gales supported him

    And helped him defeat disbelief through awe

  53. وعمت كما عمت رسالته الورى

    شفاعته العظمى على كل ذي ذنب

    As his great message covered all people

    So spread his greatest intercession to every sinner

  54. له معجزات لو يقابل نورها

    بشمس الضحى اضحت من السحب في نقب

    He has miracles that if compared to

    The rays of forenoon would pierce the clouds with gaps

  55. ومن ذا يعد الفطر أويحصر الحصي

    ويحصي بذهن ثاقب عدد الشهب

    Who can count creation or sum the counted

    Or enumerate by a penetrating mind the number of stars

  56. فبالله بلغة تحية قاعد

    غدا من خطاياه على مركب صعب

    So by God deliver my greetings at dawn

    When sins embark him on a difficult ship

  57. وأد إليه شوق القلب مد له

    وعين غدت بالدمع هامية الغرب

    Convey the longing of my heart, outstretched

    While my eyes brim with roving, wandering tears

  58. وكرر سلامي وأسأل الله لي به

    لأقضي مرامي قبل أن ينقضي نحجي

    Repeat my greetings and ask Allah through him

    To fulfill my hopes before my sun sets

  59. ويكشف عن قلبي حجاب حظوظه

    فإن حظوظ النفس من أمنع الحجب

    And uncover from my heart the veil of his gifts

    For the soul’s gifts are the toughest veil

  60. عسى نفخة يضفو بها ظل جاه

    علي ويصفو لي بموردها شربي

    May a breath grant me the shade of glory

    And clear my watering hole so I may drink

  61. وعلى أن أحظي بلثم ترابه

    واصبح بعد البعد من جيرة الشعب

    That I may gain the honor to kiss his soil

    And wake after remoteness a neighbor of the enclosure

  62. واشكو دواء الذنوب الذي وهي

    بها جسدي إلى العارف القلب

    And complain to the healer of sins which have

    Wasted my body, to the knower of hearts

  63. وتذهب أدوائي وتبرد لوعتي

    وأدرك آمالي وآمن في سربي

    So my illnesses disappear and my anguish cools

    And I attain my hopes and feel safe in my group

  64. وإن مت من قبل اللقاء بغصتي

    فكم مات من قبلي بها من أخي حب

    And if I die before the meeting in my agony

    Then how many have died before me in their love

  65. عليه سلام الله ما هبت الصبا

    وما افتر ثغر النور من أدمع السحب

    Peace be upon him whenever the morning breeze blows

    And the star of light peeks from the clouds’ tears

  66. وما ناح محزون وما حن نازح

    وما شدت الورقاء في غصن رطب

    Whenever a grieving one laments, a departing one leaves

    Whenever a branch sways on a wet tree
