1. تكشفت عن محيا مصر أستار

    وخف عنها من الأثقال أوزار

    Egypt's veil has been lifted,

    And the heavy burdens have been eased.

  2. واهتزت الأرض منها بهجة وربت

    ولاح فيها إضاءة وأنوار

    The land shook with joy and grew,

    And it shone with illumination and lights.

  3. كانت كصبح تعالت فوقه ظلم

    شتى ففاجأها بالنور أسفار

    It was like a dawn with darkness above,

    Surprised by the rising of stars.

  4. وكانت الشمسُ تغاشاها الغمام ضحى

    فمزقته من الرياح أعصار

    The sun used to be veiled by clouds at noon,

    But torn apart by the winds of storms.

  5. فاليوم أعطافها بالبشر مايسةٌ

    وقدّها في حلى السعد خطّار

    Today it is cloaked in robes of white,

    Adorned with lucky belts.

  6. وكانت الطرق قد شابت مفارقها

    والشيب إن شان ما في أخذه عار

    Its paths used to overlap,

    For grayness takes no shame in persistence.

  7. وأصبحت أوجه الأرضين مسفرة

    وزال عنهن إقتار وأقذارُ

    The faces of lands now glow,

    Free of gloom and stains.

  8. تتبه زهوا على الأمصار قاطبةً

    وبازها بجناح النسر طيار

    They swagger with glory over all nations,

    And excel with the wings of a soaring eagle.

  9. ألا تراها اكتست حلى البياض ولو

    لا ذاك ما اتضحت للناس أقطارُ

    Look how it wears the jewels of whiteness, without which

    Its territories would not have been clear to people.

  10. كأنها روضة بالقطر قد غديت

    وزانها من وجوه البيض أزهار

    It became like a garden sprayed with drops,

    Its faces are white flowers.

  11. فالبعض منها يهنى البعض منه على

    كشف الغموم وللإعسار إيسار

    Some congratulate some over

    Dispelling gloom and easing hardship.

  12. فبعض أبوابها بالنصر مشتهر

    وبعضها لفتوح الرزق مختار

    Some of its doors boast of victory,

    Others are known for opened sustenance.

  13. وللسعادة باب عنده فرج

    كلاهما لأخيه في الهنا جار

    It has a gate for happiness and relief,

    Each neighbor therein to his brother.

  14. وأما زديلة زالت عنه كربته

    وللدخول به كم دق مسمار

    Zadilla's distress has gone,

    How many nails were hammered for entry!

  15. دقت مساميره طاراتها فرحا

    ومنه للريح تشبيب ومزمار

    Its nails and screws happily hammered

    Making music of joy for the winds.

  16. حيت شوارعه للناس فاتسعت

    واستشرقت منه أسواق وأسوار

    Its streets widened for the people,

    Markets and walls saw the light.

  17. كانت حوانيته تشكو الثيوبة من

    وطىء الحوافر وهي اليوم أبكار

    Its shops used to complain of trampling hooves,

    Yet today they are virgins.

  18. وخرق عادة باب الخرق يرفعه

    من العناية بناء ونجار

    The custom of the broken gate is mended

    With care, construction and carpentry.

  19. واليوم ساكنه في جنة وجرت

    من تحتها لأولى الأبصار أنهار

    Today its dwellers are in paradise,

    With rivers flowing under it for keen sights.

  20. والقوس من بابها جنت لجاذبها

    طوعا وأصمت من الأعداء أوتار

    The arch of its gate willingly bent

    To its pull, and muted enemy bowstrings.

  21. وباب قنطرة والبحر في عجب

    من باب شعرية لم تحو إيزار

    Qanater's gate astonished the sea

    With Shubra's gate wearing no pants.

  22. وأما الجوامع قد فكت جوامعها

    عنها ففيها تسابيح وأذكار

    As for the mosques, they have relieved their mosques

    Filled with praises and invocations.

  23. فجامع الصالح استوفى مصالحة

    حتى كأن العشايا منه أبكار

    Al-Saleh mosque has perfected its conciliation,

    That its ruins became virgins.

  24. لما شكا الناس من مصر مضايقها

    وحار فيها من الحكام أفكارُ

    When people complained of Egypt's narrowness,

    And thoughts of governors fell confused,

  25. فما تلقى أجور القاطنين بها

    إلا الأمير الذي بالعرف أمّارُ

    None received the wages of its dwellers,

    Except the Prince guided by knowledge.

  26. فهو الهمام النظام المرتقى درجا

    ت الفضل يشبك مولانا الدوادر

    He is the determined system, elevated in steps

    Of virtue, our Lord unites the companions.

  27. ذو الحزم والعزم من في الخافقين له

    أمر ونهى وإيراد وإصدار

    With resolve and will, none in the horizons

    Command and forbid, spend and hold.

  28. فشد حبل قواه وهو منتهض

    وسل سيف سطاه وهو بتار

    He tightened the rope of his powers while rising,

    Unsheathed the sword of his scope while reproaching.

  29. لولا عزائمه في مصر ما حسنت

    والدوح ييبس ما لم تهم أمطار

    Without his determination Egypt would not be beautiful,

    And the Nile branch dries if rains do not wish.

  30. له على الحق إقبال يليق به

    طبعا وعن زخرف الأموال إدبار

    His tendency to truth befits him,

    In nature, shunning the vanities of money.

  31. مذ قام يحيى من الأرض التي اندرست

    أمواتها ساعدت علياه أقدار

    Since Yahya rose from the fallen land,

    Its dead were aided by fate.

  32. وكيف لا وعزيز النصر جاء له

    مهاجرا وله الأيام أنصار

    Why not, and the dear victory came to him

    An emigrant, and days are his supporters.

  33. فكم تجلت بوجه منه مظلمة

    وكم تحلت بعين منه آثار

    How much gloom was dispelled by his face,

    And sorrows were removed by his eyes!

  34. إن رمت حصرَ يسد من مناقبه

    فدون ذلك أزمان وأعمارُ

    If you attempt limiting his virtues' enclosure,

    Beyond that are lifetimes and ages.

  35. ودت محاسن مصر أن يكون لها

    إلى محاسنه سمع وإبصار

    The beauties of Egypt wished for him

    Hearing and sight for its beauties.

  36. هذا لعمري هو الندب الذي افتخرت

    مصر به فهي حسنا نعمة الدار

    By my life, this is the pride

    Egypt boasted in, so it is beauty, bounty of the abode.

  37. لا زال روض أمان للأنام به

    ظل مدا الدهر ممدود وأثمار

    It remains a garden of safety for the people,

    Its shade stretched, fruits lasted.

  38. ما ماست الدوح بالأكمام راقصةً

    وما تغنت على العيدانِ أطيارُ

    The Nile branch has not swayed with sleeves dancing,

    Nor have birds sung to the willows.
