يا غاية السؤل والمراد
ألله الله في فؤادي
O the ultimate goal of my questions and desires
God, God is in my heart
إلى متى أنت يا حياتي
تمنع عيني من الرقاد
For how long, o my life
Do you prevent my eyes from sleeping
عذبتني بالمعاد فارحم
أوّاه من حرقة البعاد
You have tormented me with promises, so have mercy
Oh, the agony of distance
أما كفى أن أذقت قلبي
نار اتقاد على اتقاد
Isn't it enough that you made my heart taste
A fire that kept intensifying
وبعد ذا قد جعلت جفني
حلف سهاد على سهاد
And after that you made my eyelids
Take an oath not to sleep again
حتى م الا ترعوي ولا ترثي
لمن رقت الأعادي
You don't care for nor sympathize with
He whose enemies have shed tears
أنحله سقمنه إلى أن
أخفاه إن يلف في مهاد
I will loosen the knot of his illness until
I hide him if he turns in his deathbed
وقد تلاشى وذاب حتى
سال به فيض كل وادي
He has faded and melted until
The valleys overflowed with his remains
أفنيته عنه في مقام
نال غاية المراد
I made him reach the place of
Attaining the ultimate desire
آنس نار الهدى بلبل
من طور سينا حمى الفؤاد
The fire of guidance perceived a nightingale
From Mount Sinai, it kindled the heart
فقام في حيه بنادي
إن المنادي دعا المنادي
So it stood in its living by calling
The caller has called upon the called
والله والله يا حبيبي
لا حلت عن حالة الوداد
By God, by God o my beloved
If you saw my passion you'd know
ولو يراني الثوى وحسبي
أنك مغناطيس اعتقادي
That you're a magnet for my faith
So torment if you will, for in my eyes
فعذّب إن شئت فهو عندي
والله من أعظم الأيادي
It is, by God, the greatest benevolence
Or have mercy, for nothing but
أو شئت فارحم فليس إلا
رضاك يا بغيتي مرادي
Your pleasure is what I desire
You are where the darkness comes from
أنت محل السواد مني
في ناظر العين والفؤاد
In the eyes and the heart of the seer
O people, have mercy on a captive
يا للرجال ارحموا أسيرا
ليس له من عناه فادي
With no redeemer to set him free
A burning heart, drowning eyes
حريق قلب غريق جفن
مواصل السقم والسهاد
Continually ill and sleepless
A confused nightingale, unaware
مبلبل البال ليس يدري
ما حاله في هوى سعاد
Of its state in its passionate love
It has no helper in passion
ليس له في الهوى معين
سوى معين حلى الغوادي
Except the helper of the vales
It has no companion in the darkness
ولا له في الدجى سمير
غير نجوم العلا الهوادي
Except the stars lighting the hills
It has no savior but to
ولا له مخلص سوى أن
يجهد في مدح خير هادي
Exert itself in praising the best guide

بالسمح والعين والفؤاد
With forgiveness, care and heart
The most perfect of creation in essence
أكمل خلق الجميل ذاتا
وخير من خص بالأيادي
And the best of those graced with benevolence
The noblest of messengers in status
وأشرف المرسلين وضعا
في البدء والختم المعاد
In the beginning and the hereafter
The greatest of all in prestige
وأعظم العالمين قدرا
ما بين خاف وبين بادي
Between the East and the travelers
Bright forehead, honest livelihood
أزج زاهي الجبين أقنى
مورد الخد ذو اتقاد
Source of guidance with intensity
Long fine eyelashes, passionate gaze
أشنب ساجي اللحاظ أحوى
مهفهف القد باتئاد
Tall, straight and firm
Beautiful, majestic, fulfilment
جميل وصف جليل قدر
مكمل الأيد ذو أيادي
Complete of hands with benevolence
Wakeful at heart, though his
مستيقظ القلب إن تداعت
عيناه للنوم في المهاد
Eyes sleep on the deathbed
A lantern, herald and good
سراج نور بشير خير
نبي هدى رسول هادي
Prophet, guide and leader
His Master created him from
أنشأه مولاه من جمال
ومن حلال ومن رشاد
Purity, lawfulness and righteousness
And formed him before all creation
وصاغه قبل كل كون
من نوره المبدي المبادي
From His originating and eternal light
He perfected him in manners and morals
قد تم خلقا وفاق خلقا
فهو سنا اللعين والفؤاد
So he excelled people in core and heart
His upcoming was foretold by
أنبأ عن بعثه سطيح
وشق الحبر مع سواد
Sutihiq when the sea parted
And Waraqa, Kacb and likewise measured
وورقة والمهام كعب
وهكذا قس ذو الأيادي
That supreme hand with benevolence
And his mother saw extraordinary
وعاينت أمه أمورا
خارقة حاله الولاد
Things beyond nature at his birth
The palace of King Kosroes cracked
وانشق إيوان ملك كسرى
وخر أعلاه للوهاد
And its highest wall collapsed
Its water diminished after flooding
وماؤه غاض من بعد فيض
وجمره صار كالرماد
And its embers turned to ashes
His Lord sent him in truth
أرسله ربه بحق
جلا به ظلمة العناد
With which He dispelled the darkness of stubbornness
So he called to Him in justice
فقام يدعو له بعدل
كف به صولة التعادي
Restraining the transgressions of enemies
He fasted until emaciation withered
وصام حتى وهى حشاه
بشد صلد على فؤاد
His guts in resilient determination
He stood in prayer until his legs
وقام حتى اشتكت بضر
رجلاه من كثرة التمادي
Complained of pain due to his perseverance
He traveled by night with the angels
أم بالأملاك في سماء
والرسل طرا على انفراد
And messengers flying alone
All equally lowly compared to him
وكلهم في علاه أضحوا
كرشح عين بفيض وادي
Like drips in the stream of a valley
And through him they related
وعنه يروون ما حووه
من مطلق المجد باستناد
What they contained of absolute glory by depending on him
He sent him after every caller
أرسله بعد كل داع
واختاره قبل كل بادي
And chose him before any guide
He faced him with might and glory
تلقاه في صولة وعزّ
كالليث في الباس والتفادي
As strong as a lion in valor and confrontation
And the eye sees him as a full moon
وتشهد العين منه بدرا
يمحى به حالك السواد
By which your darkened state disappears
He is too holy for what the Christians claim
حاشاه مما ادعى النصارى
وادعوه يا أشرف العباد
And we pray to him, o best of worshippers
His Master called him to ascend
ناداه مولاه لارتقاء
حل به حضرة المنادي
To where the presence of the caller was
And singled him out with a secret that
وخصه في العلا بسر
أضحى به مظهر الفؤاد
Became an expression of the heart
And singled him out for selection
وخصه منه باصطفاء
صيّره عمدة المعاد
Making him the pillar of the hereafter
He called him by night to the station of
ناداه ليلا إلى مقام
حل به حضرة المنادي
Where the presence of the caller was
And he rode Al-Buraq when
وسار فوق البراق لما
صار له جبريل حادي
Gabriel became his guide
And he kept ascending until
ولم يزل يرتقي إلى أن
جاز على السبعة الشداد
He crossed past the seven mighty thresholds
And broke through the veils with ascension
واخترق الحجب بارتقاء
لحضرة الواحد الجواد
To the presence of the All-giving Generous
And he was like a bow's length or nearer
وكان كالقاب بل وأدنى
ممن له خص بالأيادي
To the One who singled him out for benevolence
And he saw Reality without incarnation
وشاهد الحق دون أين
ولا حلول ولا اتحاد
Union or identity being attached
He revealed to him, you are My servant
أوحى إليه بأنت عبدي
فسد مقاما على عبادي
Take a stance higher than My servants
Intercede and your intercession will be granted
واشفع تشفّع وقل لأسمع
وسل لأعطيك بازدياد
And ask me to give abundantly
And he returned at night astonished
وعادو الليل في سراه
يرفل في حلّة السواد
Robed in the garment of darkness
He is the intercessor relied upon
فهو الشفيع الذي عليه
عمدة من ضمه التنادي
The pillar of those brought together in invocation
He is the Merciful who
وهو الرحيم الذي لديه
يرحم من تاب عن فساد
has mercy for those who repent evil
He is the Generous whose hands
وهو الكريم الذي يداه
تهزأ في الجود بالغوادي
Mock the rain in generosity
He is the pillar sought in adversity
وهو العماد الذي إليه
يلجأ من ضلّ عن رشاد
By those who stray from righteousness
The young camel acknowledged him in surrender
الضب ناداه باعتراف
والفحل حياه بانقياد
And the stallion greeted him in submission
The cloud shaded him from blazing heat
والغيم وقاه حر قيض
وجاد ناديه بالعهاد
And its rains obeyed him
The moon split itself drawing near him
والبدر قد شق للتداني
والجذع قد حن للبعاد
And the tree trunk bent at his absence
The sun stopped and returned
والشمس قد أوقفت وردت
بأمره سهلة القياد
Easily led by his command
And the young deer called him in the valley
والظبي في الشعب قد دعاه
والطفل لباه في المهاد
As did the infant on its deathbed
The deer greeted him when he rescued it
والظبي حياه إذ فداه
من صائد ليس منه فادي
From a hunter with no ransomer
And the sheep freely yielded him milk
والشاة درّت له حليبا
من غير فحل ولا سفاد
With no stud or milker
And the wolf called upon the dogs saying hurry
والذئب نادى الخليط سارع
للشعب تهدى بخير هادي
To the valley you'll be guided by the best guide
And the boulder in the middle of his palms
والصلد في وسط راحتيه
سبّح مولاه ذا الأيادي
Glorified his Master, the Lord of benevolence
The palm trunk answered his call
والعذق لباه إذ دعاه
وهكذا أخرس الجماد
As did the other speechless minerals
The sheep informed him of poison
والشاة بالسم أنبأته
والنخل وافاه باقتياد
And the palm tree came to him leading the way
The non-Arabs prayed openly for him
والعجم صلّت عليه جهرا
بألسن فصح جراد
In eloquent tongues of locusts
And the piece of wood sprouted leaves in his hands
وأورق العود في يديه
وصار عذبا لذي جلاد
And turned sweet instead of harsh
And the water between his fingers
والماء من بين اصبعيه
قد فاض كي يسقي الصوادي
Overflowed to quench the valley
And the little food satisfied
وبالطعام القليل كفى
جيشا حكى كثرة الجراد
An army like the multitude of locusts
And how much did he heal of disabilities and cure
والغار فيه عجاب أمر
إذ صان علياه عن أعادي
With saliva and touch from plagues
And how much distress did he dispel and clarify
أبرى عيني أبي تراب
بالتفل من مؤلم العراد
With the sword and spear from enemies
And how many doubts of misguidance were erased
ورد عين الفتى الموقى
قتادة أحسن ارتداد
When the verse of guidance was revealed
And how much virtue did I see
كرد كف الفتى ابن عفرا
من بعدما قدها المعادي
In his companions who dispelled evil
The imam of truth who spent himself
ورد شق الرضي خبيب
كخير شق لذي اعتداد
In remembrance, kindness and worship
And the sun of truth by which we were given to drink
ورد ملح المياه عذبا
فصار يا لكل صادي
The darkness of polytheism and obstinance
And rain of generosity by which we transcended
يا كم كفى عسكرا عظيما
بنزر ماء وتزر زاد
The loftiness of the seven mighty thresholds
And lion of war who made us curb
وكم شفى عاهة وعافى
بالريق والمسح من عراد
The rising of aggressive transgressors
No courageous army marched to war
وكم جلا كربة وجلى
بالسيف والرمح من أعادي
Except due to him the enemies fled defeated
Nor was a sword drawn on a day of battle
وكم محا شبهة لغيي
لما رأى آية الرشاد
Except due to him the enemies fell humiliated
His prey prayed for his enemies
وكم أرى الصحب من صلاح
جلوا به ظلمة الفساد
A prayer sealing the meeting with death
And his companions found shelter when
إمام صدق دعا البرايا
بالذكر والبيض والصعاد
Hostilities flared up from enemies
He led a mighty lion army
وشمس حق به محونا
غياهب الشرك والعناد
On steeds like the winds of Aad
Repelling violence in a wondrous way
وغيث جود به علونا
على علا السبعة الشداد
A lion riding on steeds
Whenever you see what he inflicts
وليث حرب به كففنا
صوائل العتل العوادي
In the ferocity of war and pursuit
You'd think it an arrow he shot, aimed
ما أم صفا إلى قتال
إلا له أدبر المعادي
By the cunning of a bow in perfect alignment
They are the clouds in generosity
ولا انتضى السيف يوم حرب
إلا له خرت الأعادي
They are the meteors in striving
Succors of peace to lions of war
صلت ظباه على عداه
صلاة حتف لدى الجلاد
Leaders inviting with yearning
Who can compare to the master of piety?
وسلم الصحب حيث تحى
رغما لأناف من بعادي
Or Omar the guided pillar?
Or the eminent Osman?
يقود جيشا كاسد غاب
على جياد كريح عاد
Or the noble and generous Ali?
Or his noble uncle, sons or
يرفض بأسا ومن عجيب
ركوب أسد على جياد
Wives leading the way of guidance?
Or his elite companions - the merciful and firm?
من كل شهم إذا ترى ما
في خوّة الحرب للطراد
Who can match their brilliance
In knowledge, wisdom and valor?
حسبت سهما رماه رام
من كيد قوس على سداد
Or how can they equal his ascent?
Absurd! The flowers are not like musk
هم هم السحب في العطايا
هم هم الشهب في الجهاد
His Master called them from His highness
And they followed from Him the best guide
غيوث سلم ليوث حرب
رؤوس حي صدور نادي
I swear by his absence and brilliance
If the planets and lands were made
من مثل شيخ التقى المعلى
أو عمر المرتضى العماد
As scrolls stretching endlessly
With vegetation as pens and valleys
أو مثل عثمان ذي المعالي
أو كعليّ الفتى الجواد
As ink pouring free flowing
With people continuously swarming
أو مثل عميه أو بنيه
أو مثل أزواجه الهوادي
To record virtues vigilantly
To compile his attributes by scripts
أو مثل أصحابه السوامي
السادة الرحم الشداد
From the evident leader of invocation
They would not contain one tenth
من ذا يحاكي سنا علاهم
في العلم والحلم والجلاد
Of the virtues exclusive to the master of worshippers
And how can they account for a full moon
أم كيف يحكون في اعتلاء
هيهات ما الزهر كالقتاد
That Allah distinguished with increase?
And increased overpoweringly with victory and aid
دعاهم من علاه داع
فاتبعوا منه خير هادي
Through verses of conquest and Sad
Can the rain drops be counted?
أقسمت من بونه بنون
ومن سنا ثغره بصاد
Or numbered like locust hordes?
Or the sand, cattle and common things
لو أن الأفلاك والأراضي
صيّرن سنا ثغره بصاد
Measured by units and ordinary counting?
The truth is clear and not hidden
لو أن الأفلاك والأراضي
صيرن كالصحف في امتداد
Except from the blindest adversaries
But I have insolently ventured to praise
والنبت الأقلام والقوادي
وكلما سال كالمداد
The youth of generosity and benevolence
He is far exalted above denying my praise
والخلق طرا على التوالي
تسرع في الكتب باجتهاد
And attaining the desired excess
Or rejecting praise completely
وتجمع الوصف باكتتاب
من مبدي الأمن للتنادي
When he is the youth of every valley
By the right of his eyes and life
لما حووا عشر عشر وصف
خصّ به سيد العباد
My faith cannot abandon passionate devotion
I hope for nothing but that
وكيف يحصون وصف بدر
خصّصه الله بازدياد
His highness is my reliance
I have not ceased invoking him
وزاده عنوة ونصرا
بآي فتح وآي صاد
At every valley and every assembly
Until I invoke in a joyous voice
أيحصر العد قطر ماء
أم تنحصي عدة الجراد
The face of the best for felicity
Come o son of Khalluf and be glad
أم يضبط الرمل والمواشي
بكيل صاع وحصر عادي
For the good path and provision
We have made you among the loyal
الحقّ باد وليس يخفى
إلا على أكمه معادي
And honored you with increase
We have clothed you in our pleasure
لكن تطفلت في مديحي
على فتى الجود ذي الأيادي
With garments of proximity and friendship
So delight your eye and heal your heart
حاشاه أن يحرم امتداحي
من نيله الفائض المراد
With attaining your wish completely
O Lord, accept me and do not disappoint me
أو يرجع المدح فيه كلا
وهو فتى عرب كل وادي
You are my succor and reliance
Soon returning from travel
وحق عينيه والمحيا
لا حال عن حبّه اعتقادي
To the good town and best lands
And have mercy on my submission and conclude with good
ولا أرجي السوى وحسبي
أن علاه هو اعتمادي
When a servant is called to the return
And support your loyal servant
ولم أزل باسمه أنادي
في كل واد وفي كل نادي
Osman, vanquisher of evil
Support him and the armies of Islam through him
حتى أنادي بضوت بشر
من وجه خير لدى سعاد
And restrain aggression of enemies
And be for him a protector and ally
هلم يا ابن الخلوف وابشر
بخير مأوى وخير زاد
And shield from the harm of every enemy
And guard the protection of your hopeful servant
لقد جعلناك في الموالي
وقد حموناك بازدياد
The felicitous, rain of generosity
And make him successful, through him the subjects
وقد كسوناك من رضانا
ملابس القرب والوداد
And protect his ascendance, stability and continuation
And repay his benevolence to us
فقرّ عينا وطب فؤادا
بنيل ما رمت من مراد
And reap by his swords the necks of the unbelievers
And aid the protectors of Islam with clouds
يا رب فاقبل ولا تخيب
فأنت غوثاي واعتمادي
And restrain aggression through him
And have mercy on my elders
ومن بالعود عن قريب
لطيبة أشرف البلاد
With storms of pardoning, pillar of pillars
And forgive my parents and improve through Your favor
وارحم خضوعي واختم بخير
إذا دعي العبد للمعاد
the evil of my misdeeds
And fulfill my debts, protect my sons
وانصر لوا عبدك الموفى
عثمان ماحي دحى الفساد
Reward the brothers with propriety
And shower bounties on the Muslims
وانصره وانصر به جيوش الا
سلام واكفف به التعادي
With pardon, o King of worshippers
And send blessings that accompany
وكن له حافظا معينا
ورقة شر كل عادي
The master mediator desired
His companions, family, loyalists
واحرس حمى عبدك المرجى
المسعود غيث الندى الجواد
And followers, way of guidance
No dove has complained in its nest
وأسعده واسعد به الرعايا
واحفظ علاه التمادي
Agitated by the hunter’s voice
وجازه بالجميل عنا
وامحق بأسيافه الأعادي
واحصد عرى الكافرين وانصر
حماة الإسلام بالصعاد
وارحم شيوخي وجد عليهم
بوبل عفو حكي العماد
واصفح عن الوالدين واصلح
بفضلك المرتجى فسادي
ووف ديني وصن بنيي
وجاز الإخوان بالسداد
وجد على المسلمين طرا
بالعفو يا مالك العباد
وصل تعترى على المفدى
السيد الكامل المراد
والصحب والآل والموالي
والتابعين منهج الرشاد
ما ناح في أيكه حمام
هيجة باسم القواد
