كيف أهدى وما اتبعت دليلا

My efforts went astray, and I did not find a path

ساء فعلي واسود أبيض قلبي

ما احتيالي وقد عصيت الجليلا

How can I guide when I did not follow a guide?

My deeds went bad and my heart turned black

وأطعت الهوى وغير جميل

أن أطيع الهوى وأعطي الجميلا

I had no excuse when I disobeyed the Majestic One

And obeyed passions and the undeserving

وحملت الذنوب حملا ثقيلا

كيف أنجو وقد حملت ثقيلا

To obey passions and give to the deserving!

And carried heavy burdens of sins

وركبت الهوى سيرا ومكثا

كيف أمسي وقد اسأت مقيلا

How can I be saved when I carried heavy loads?

And rode passions, staying and travelling

وطرحت الجد المنجي راسا

ولزمت التسويف والتسويلا

How can I arrive when I wronged the stopping place?

And threw away the saving truth foolishly

وعصيت النهى ومن فوق رأسي

منذر الشيب سل سيفا صقيلا

And stuck to procrastination and petty excuses

And disobeyed the prohibition though above my head

ونضا الشيب فوق رأسي سيفا

لم أطعه وقد غدا مسلولا

The warner of old age unsheathed a polished sword

And the white hair grew above my head like an unsheathed sword

ما احتيالي إذا احتضرت ونادى

مزعج الساكن الرحيل الرحيلا

Yet I did not obey it though it stood ready

What can I do when death calls

أم بماذا أدلي وما لي عذر

غير أني اسأت فعلا وقيلا

"Move, move O settler, it is time to leave!"

With what can I argue? What excuse do I have

فدعوني أبكي وأندب شجوى

إن شجوى أثار داء دخيلا

Except that I did wrong in deed and word?

So let me cry and complain with passion

وأسيل الدموع شيئا فشيئا

وأجوب الربوع ميلا فميلا

For passion awakens a lurking malady

And let my tears flow little by little

وأساري الضاعون ركبا فركبا

وأراعي النجوم جيلا فجيلا

And I roam the meadows mile after mile

And seek the wanderers riding band after band

عل ماء الدموع يطفىء نارا

أورثت مهجتي أسى وعليلا

And gaze at the stars generation after generation

Hoping the water of tears will extinguish a fire

أو عسى لوعتي تجفف دمعا

ضير الجسم بالسقام نحيلا

That caused my innermost self grief and sickness

Or hoping that my intense agony will dry a tear

من معيني وليس غير معين

صير الخد للدماء مسيلا

And make lean the fat body with disease

From my eyes though I have no other spring

من وصيفي وليس غير معين

صير الخد للدماء مسيلا

That made my cheek a channel for blood

From my companion though I have no other friend

من وصيفي وليس طرفي ماذا

عوّجاني وما استقاما قليلا

That made my cheek a channel for blood

From my companion though my eyes never

يا فؤادي أراك تعزو لطرفي

ما جنته اليدان عزوا مهيلا

Wronged me, nor deviated a little!

O my heart, I see you blame my eyes

إن تلمه تجد لإنسان عيني

في بحار الدموع سبحا طويلا

As if the hands can commit a blameless fault!

If you gather them you will find the eyes of humans

أو يلمك الإنسان يشهد جهلا

بين جنبيك قد غدا مشعولا

Swimming in seas of tears for long

Or if a human gathers you, he will witness ignorance

يا ثقاتي وأين مني ثقاتي

جاوز السيل حيث فاض التلولا

Smouldering between your sides

O my confidants! Where are my confidants?

يا أماني وأين مني أماني

شغل الحلي أهله أني زولا

The torrent flooded over the knolls

O my hopes! Where are my hopes?

يا حياتي وكيف لي بحياة

والهوى صير العليلا قتيلا

The ornaments made their people disappear

O my life! How can I have life

يا نسيما من أرض طيبة وافى

عطر الجو حيث صار بليلا

When passions made the sick one a martyr?

O breeze, visiting from the good land

ملأ الأرض زرنبا وبهارا

وخزاما وأذخرا وجليلا

Whose air is fragrant with perfume

Fill the land with basil, herbs

قد فرشنا لك العيون اتضاعا

ولثمنا لك الثرى تبجيلا

And lavender and stock and nobility

We furnished eyes for you out of humility

علل الصب بالقبول فإني

يا نسيم الصبا أراك قبولا

And kissed the ground in veneration

Please accept the young man’s passion, for I

وأعني على تعلل صبري

ربما ساعد العليل العليلا

O morning breeze, see that you accept

And help me bear my passion

وأعدلي ذكر الحبيب لأسقي

بحديث الحبيب كاسا شمولا

Maybe one afflicted will help another afflicted

And mention the beloved to water me

وغذا عدت للمنازل فاشرح

قصة الصب واحذر التطعويلا

With the tale of the beloved like a filled cup

And when you return to the dwellings then explain

واقر مني له السلام وقبل

عني النعل والثرى تقبيلا

The story of passion, beware of fabrication!

And convey my greeting, and on my behalf

واجر بالله يا نسيم بلطف

بعض ذكري عند الحبيب قليلا

Kiss the sandal and earth in kissing

And gently, by God O breeze, gently

واحك ذلي لعزه وتعطف

فعسى يرحم العزيز الذليلا

Pass on some of my memory to the beloved

And narrate to his glory tales of tenderness

وتلطف عسى يمن بوعد

إنّه كان وعده مفعولا

Maybe the mighty one will have mercy upon the lowly

And maybe tenderness will favor with a promise

وامل شجوى على الحمام وطارح

بلبل الدوح واتخذه وسيلا

His promise was always fulfilled

And carry my passion to the turtledove and cast

وابكياني بكل دمع نحيبا

واندباني بكل شجو هزيلا

The songbird of the valley as a messenger

And make them both cry for me with every woeful sob

يا ضليلا عن الطريق إلى كم

أنت غاد عن الطريق ضليلا

And mourn me with every feeble lament

O wanderer from the path to the Beloved

إن تكن بؤت بالمآثم حسرا

فابك مثلي وهل تجد لي مثيلا

How long have you strayed from the path, O wanderer?

If ruins made you grieve, then cry like me

واهجر النوم سحرة ومقيلا

وارسل الدمع بكرة وأصيلا

Can you find one who cries like me?

And forbid sleep at dawn and when resting at noon

والزم الصوم في النهار ورتل

ذكر مولاك في الدجى ترتيلا

And let tears flow early and late

And always fast during the day, and recite

وافن تبق ومت تعش وتخلى

تتحلى وغب تجده وصولا

His remembrance in the darkness, chanting

And prepare to leave though you live, and leave though you settle,

وارق علوا إذا تواضعت سفلا

واحظ بالعز إن أتيت ذليلا

Adorned though you find Him as arrival

And humble yourself though you rise high

واطرح النفس واختذها عدوا

والزم الصدق وارتضيه بديلا

And be modest though you come lowly

And cast off the self and make it an enemy

واجمل الظن في الجميل توفى

أجر من ظن فيه ظنا جميلا

And always be truthful and accept it as substitute

And think well of a good person and be just to him

واحسن المدح في الحبيب لكيما

أن تجازى به الجزاء الجزيلا

The reward is good for one who thinks good

And praise the beloved excellently so that you may

فهو طه الفتى الكريم المفدى

مفخر العالم الجليل الجميلا

Be rewarded with an abundant reward

For he is Taha, the noble young man, the chosen one

مظهر المجد والكمال المرجى

أحمد المرتضى الحفي الحفيلا

Pride of the world, majestic, beautiful

Source of glory and perfection hoped for

أكرم العالمين روحا وذاتا

وصفاتا ومعشرا وقبيل

Ahmad the happy, the guarded, the weaned one

Most generous of creatures in spirit, essence

عز قدرا ومنتصبا ومقاما

يا له مصطفى نبيئا رسولا

And attributes, fellowship, and tribe

Mighty of esteem, towering in station, and abode

ظاهرا مقتضى سراجا منيرا

طاهرا مجتبي حبيبا خليلا

What a Messenger Prophet sent as a Messenger!

Manifesting requirement, a lamp giving light

أفضل الخلق صفوة الحق طه

زاده الله عنده تفضيلا

Pure, chosen beloved, intimate friend

Best of creatures, elite of the Truth, Taha

صاغه الله من بهاء ونور

فغدا كاملا جليلا جميلا

Increased over him in preference

God formed him of splendor and light

كمل الله وصفه وحماه

وحباه بما حبى تكميلا

So he became perfect, majestic, beautiful

God perfected his traits and protected him

واصطفاه عن السوا واجتباه

وأراه وجه الجمال الجليلا

And gifted to complete, endowing him

And chose him over humankind and selected him

وارتضاه مشفعا ووجيها

وإماما وشاهدا وكيلا

And showed him the face of perfect beauty

And approved him intercessor, dignitary

وبه قد دعا الأنام إليه

وعليه قد أنزل التنزيلا

And imam, witness, and trustee

Through him He called people to Himself

محكما صادقا بشيرا نذيرا

شاهدا مرشدا مبينا دليلا

And upon him revealed the Scripture

Decisive, truthful herald and warner

قد حوى الصحف والزبور والألوا

ح وحاز التوراة والإنجيلا

Witness, guide, clarifier, evidence

He contained the scrolls, Psalms and tablets

علم الخط وهو أمي خط

وأبان المنقوط والمهمولا

And attained the Torah and Bible

He knew writing though an illiterate

وروينا عنه العلوم فهمنا

أن فهمنا المعقول والمنقولا

And clarified the dotted and unmarked letters

And we narrate from him the sciences, so we realized

أم بالرسل والملائك لما

أرسل الله خلفه جبريلا

That we understood the transmitted and reason

Or with the messengers and angels when

وأتى بالبراق كي يمتطيه

فامتطاه وسار سيرا عجولا

God sent Gabriel behind him

And he came with Al-Buraq to mount it

وارتقى يخرق الطباق إلى أن

جاوز الحجب رفعة ووصولا

So he mounted it and travelled with speed

And ascended, piercing the celestial spheres

ورأى الحق كيف شاء جهارا

حيث لا مثل يدعى ومثيلا

Until he surpassed the veils, rising and attaining

And saw God however He willed plainly

ويقرب دنا فكان كقاب

بل وأدنى محبّة وقبولا

Where none can be named like or match Him

And drew near, so he was as near as

واجتباه مكانة واقترابا

واصطفاه بما اصطفى تنزيلا

The bowstring, no, nearer in love and acceptance

And He chose him for position and proximity

ودعاه بأنت خير عبادي

لست أبغي بما ابتغيت بديلا

And preferred him in what He preferred in Scripture

And called him: "You are best of My servants.

أنت مني كما رأيت فشاهد

نور وجه حيرت فيه العقولا

I do not want with what I wanted any substitute.

You are from Me as you have seen. So witness

ولك الفخر قد بلغت مقاما

لم يشاهد له سواك عدلا

A light whose essence perplexed minds."

And to you belongs pride. You reached a station

أنا أدنى إليك منك ولولا

وصلتي لم تكن إليّ وصولا

None other witnessed the equal of it in justice."

I am nearest to you than yourself. And were it not

يا هنا قلبا وقر عينا فقد ما

كنت عبدا وسيدا وجليلا

For My connection, you would not have attained Me."

"O joy of heart and delight of eye, as you were

وابشر آبشر فقد غدوت نجيا

وحبيبا وصفوة وخليلا

A servant, and lord, and majestic!"

"Receive good tidings! Receive tidings! For you have become

أنت سري ومظهري ومرادي

فلك الأمر لا تحق تحويلا

Savior, beloved, elite, and intimate!"

"You are My secret, My manifestation, and My purpose

وانثنى راجعا بأنجم سعي

وجواري الدجى تجر الذيولا

So to you belongs command. Do not allow change!"

And he leaned, returning with the stars of effort

وببطحا المقام أصبح ينبى

عن سراة لصحبه تفضيلا

And handmaids of darkness trailing their hems

At the plain of the station he woke up

يا هنانا وسعدنا أن دعانا

فأجبناه واقتفينا السبيلا

Preferring his companions in preference

What happiness and bliss that He called us

ونطقنا بلا إله سوى عن

كون الكون واصطفاه رسولا

So we answered and followed the path

And we articulated there is no god but

من به أنقذ المهمين شيتا

وأباه ويونسا والخليلا

The Maker of creation and chose him as Messenger

Through whom He rescued those nearing destruction

وحمى صالحا به وشعيبا

وسليمان والفتى وإسماعيلا

Jonah, Job, the Friend, Ishmael

Through whom He protected Solomon, Sheba

وبه إسحاق أنيل والأسباط

وهارون بلغوا المأمولا

And the tribes and wives in content and acceptance

Through whom for Isaac He brought near

وليعقوب باسمه نال سرا

صير الطرف بالضياء كحيلا

And the twelve tribes attained what they hoped for

Through His name Jacob attained glory

وبه إدريس قد أجل ويحيى

وبه إلياس والعزيز أنيلا

That turned the pupil bright as kohl

Through him Enoch ascended and John

وكفى يوسفا وهودا ولوطا

ويهودا ويوشعا والكفيلا

Through him Elias and the Prince found bliss

Through Him He sufficed a thousand with one meal

وبه سخر الإله لداو

د جديدا وطيرا وتلولا

And with a little milk mounted a terrible ascent

Through Him He protects though called at affliction

وبه لاذ إذ دعا زكريا

فاستجيب الدعا وكان كفيلا

And to Him yielded when Fervor supplicated

Through Him the young foal of `Anqa’ submitted

وبه الخضر والكليم أعزا

وبه نوح والمسيح استطيلا

And through Him it obeyed wherever it dwelled

Through Him He rescued the young gazelle from slaughter

من به الرسل والملائك لاذوا

فروعوا وردا وعزوا قفولا

And spared it punishment and oppression

Through Him the beasts spoke and obeyed

من به أنطق الهواتف وال

جن والأصنام والظبي والوعولا

And the palm trees loved to stand when he called them

Through Him He returned the rod by a shake

أكرم الإنس مولدا ورضاعا

وشبابا وشيبا وكهولا

When he marched out an unsheathed sword

Through Him God protected him from the evil of Quraysh

من بمبداه شق إيوان كسرى

وغدا ماحواه رسما محيلا

The night of the house when they planned mischief

Through Him he called to guidance so the evildoer denied

من له غاض ماء ساوة لما

خمدت نار من أقام ضليلا

And the stubborn unbeliever withdrew in disgrace

Through Him he ransomed the gazelle when it came a captive

من له البدر شق نصفين شوقا

وله الجذع حن حنا طويلا

So the gazelle proclaimed: “Bear witness that Taha came a Messenger”

Through Him the forearm spoke of his mark

من له الظل قد اميل هجيرا

وله الشمس قد أعيدت أصيلا

When He, whose feet the enemy ate, arrived

Through Him He healed the eye with a glance and watered it

من حماه الحمام في الغار لما

نسج العنكبوت سترا حفيلا

And it recovered when he decided to depart

Through Him He restored the severed palm

من كفى الألف بالصواع وأرقى

بيسير الحليب جماء مهولا

Of Ibn `Ifrata after cutting - how horrible!

From his palms gushed springs of clear water -

من يكفيه صلدم وطعام

سبحا الواحد الجليل الجميلا

How many thirsty He watered and floods He released!

How much darkness He removed and brought light!

من بنفث أعاد شق خبيب

وبتقل كفى السيم الذبولا

How many illness He healed and how many sick He cured!

How many afflictions He dispelled and reliefs He brought!

من بمسح أرى للأقرع شعرا

وبمسح شفى العويلا الدخيلا

How many lost souls He guided and paths He made smooth!

How much vanity He captured and enriched poverty!

من بمسح أدرع ضرع عناق

لم تكن قبل تستلد الفحولا

How much cutting relations He restored and brought together!

How much foresight He blinded and insight He gave the blind!

من بمسح أعاد فوق محيا

عائد الخير والتقى قنديلا

And how much a killer He captured and a killed He revived!

How many miracles He showed and confounded all creatures!

من بتفل أعاد ملح أجاج

سائغ الشرب سلسلا سلسبيلا

How much signs He innovated and how much proof He manifested

The pregnant never birthed his equal, no,

من وقاه الغمام حر وهيج

وله وجاد إذ دعاه همولا

Nor received the like of him in preference

He led honored people to jihad, victorious

من له أنقاد أشوس العير طوعا

وله دان حيث كان جفولا

In endurance, conquest; fierce lions

They put aside polytheism and carried guidance

من أجار البعير من ضر نحر

وكفاه العذاب والتثقيلا

Clarifying for us categorical tenets and connotations

They protected their religion and elevated their banners

من له الوحش خاطبت وأطاعت

ودعا النخل فاستحبن مثولا

And supplicated their Lord and trusted the Messengers

They did marvelous feats against the enemy

من أعاد القضيب بالهز لما

إن غزا بدرا صارما مصقولا

So the enemy's actions were done to him

They bought with their souls the Garden of Eden

من كفاه الإله شر قريش

ليلة الدار حيث سنوا النصولا

When the seller of guidance only asked for pebbles

They wrote with their spears on the plains

من دعا للهدى فصدق بر

وانثنى الفاجر الكفور خذولا

Dotted by their lances in composition

They presented the miracle of the enemy, and presented

من فدى الظبي إذ أتاه أسيرا

فغدى الظبي يعلن التهليلا

The miracle of religion when they sent out the steeds

They perfected stabbing and striking thus they built

من له الضب قال أشهد ربي

أن طه أتى إليكم رسولا

For their enemies in battle keen swords

How many strongholds of obedience they built

من له أنبأ الذراع بسم

إذ له قدم العدا المأكولا

Adorned with impressive architecture and completion

Seeking, when adorning it with ornament

من شفى العين بريقه وسقاها

وامتطاها لما أراد الرحيلا

A constitution that fashioned for it a crown

Noble character fused with eloquence

من بتفل أعاد كف ابن عفرا

بعد قطع وكم أمد هيولا

Freshness abundant, pride long

Ask the warriors about his hands in battle, and respect

من بنبع الزلال من راحتيه

كم سقى ظامئا وأجرى سيولا

The people of peace, doing well with representation

You will find in lowlands the rain pouring

كم جلا ظلمة وأظهر نورا

كم شفى علة وأبرا عليلا

And see the lion fierce for cubs

Who can parallel their ascendance and pride?

كم كفى كربة وفرج غما

كم هدى حائرا وسن سبيلا

Or match their actions and sayings?

Or say the Pleiades vies with the Moon?

كم سبى مترفا وأغنى فقيرا

كم جفى قاطعا وأدنى وصولا

Or envision the stars wearing the crown?

Are they not in thickets of war like scholars

كم عمى مبصرا ويصر عميا

وكم سبى قاتلا وأحيا قتيلا

Making the lion in existence a lamp?

Ask the people of war about his hands, and respect

كم حوى معجزا وأعجز خلقا

كم أرى آية وأبدى دليلا

The people of peace, doing excellently in allegory

You will find the rain in the lowlands pouring

لم تلد مثله الحوامل فضلا

لا ولا تلق مثله تفضيلا

And see the lion sheltering cubs

They attained the crown and Al-Buraq the lofty

قاد قوما إلى الجهاد كراما

صبرا غلبا ليوثا فحولا

And deserved praise and the glorious station

For him is the Pond and the Intercession when

وضعوا الشرك والهدى حملوه

فأبانوا لنا الموضوع والمحمولا

Creatures come confusedly in terror

The creatures will come to him, anxious crying:

وحموا دينهم وصانوا علاهم

ودعوا ربهم وأموا الرسلا

“Stand for us! Intercede with the Lord of Acceptance!”

So with a call: I swear what awaits them

فعلوا في العدو فعل مجاز

فغدا فاعل العدا مفعولا

Is like what it awaits me, stored for completion!"

And the Intercessor will come bowing spontaneously

وشروا بالنفوس جنة عدن

إذ شرى بائع الهدى سجيلا

Under God's Throne hoping for Guarantor

And confide with the most beautiful praise in gratitude

كتبوا بالظبا حروف جسوم

نقطتها رماحهم تشكيلا

Mastering praise and declaration

And call: “Will anyone answer the desperate

وجلوا آية العدا وأجلوا

آية الدين إذ أجالوا الخيولا

Supplicant except the Responder to needs?”

“Not at all! From the time I aimed him distraught

أحكموا الطعن والضراب فبنوا

لعداهم أسنة ونصولا

As seeker of help did He fail as fulfilling!

No, nor when I feared and sought refuge through Him

كم بنوا بيت طاعة تمموه

ببديع مجنس تكميلا

As seeker of sanctuary did He fail as guardian!

No, nor when I sought from His kindness did I find, hoping

ترجو الدين إذ كسوه حليا

بصفات صاغت له إكليلا

Except He gave beautifully as Bestower!

Far be it that His all-encompassing glory

ونهوا زائغا ونادوا رشيدا

وحبوا راحلا وراعوا نزلا

Should constrict before me though my heart

Became infatuated with Him and my interior

يرتجون الرضا بطاعة طه

لا يخافون في الإله مهولا

Was set ablaze with His branding!”

“Or that I should see the grave as a pit for my punishment

فهم الشهب في الدجى تنويرا

وهم السحب في العطا تنويلا

While still hoping for safety from the tremendous!”

“How can I be disgraced when He gave me drink

وهم الزهر بهجة وارتقا

وهم الزهر نسمة وهيولا

Generously in sleep, gracing me with the diadem!”

“Or imagine myself expelled from gardens

من كشيخ التقى الخليفة صدقا

أو كفا روقه الأمير الجليلا

After becoming entitled to them as newcomer!”

“O pride of Arabs! I came a newcomer

أو كعثمان ذي العلا والمعالي

أو علي الفتى الفعولا

And I see Arabs do not repel a newcomer!

And I headed for sanctuary and came a guest

أو كعميه والبنين وسب

طيه وأزواجه رضا وقبولا

So empty my lodging - Arabs regard the guest!”

“I dared through praising you to ask

أو كأصحابه الذين ترقوا

مرتقى شامخا عريضا طويلا

That I gain reward through it as gift

Shame upon You! You disappoint an ardent youth

من يساميهم علا وفخارا

أو يحاكيهم فعالا وقيلا

Knocking the door with praises as beggar?!”

“You are more faithful than to turn away, and more generous

أو يقول السها يحاكي الثريا

أو يرى الطرف يعتلي الإكليلا

Than to grant little, being named Most Generous!”

“You are higher than any praiser can praise, by my life!

أمهم في جوامع الحرب حبر

صير العضب في الورى قنديلا

So what can I say, in truth?”

“I swear by the Essence of God truly

سل بني الحرب عن يديه وعرج

لبني السلم واحسن التمثيلا

A veracious, mighty, majestic oath:”

“If all spheres and clouds were ink

تجد الغيث في البطاح مطيرا

وترى الليث للشباة قتولا

And all lands reams in succession piled high

And plants lengthened were pens

من حوى التاج والبراق المعلى

ولوا الحمد والمقام الجليلا

And existence's waters ink most black

And all people became writers until

من له الحوض والشفاعة لما

تعتدي الخلق هائمين ذهولا

The end of time describing your beauty”

“They would not fulfil one tenth of one tenth

تأته الخلق جازعين ينادوا

قم لنا اشفع بمن كساك القبولا

Of attributes God granted you, O Messenger Taha!”

“With what can creation fulfill when God deposited

فبنادي أنا لها مثل ما هي

لي أيضا مخبؤة تكميلا

Your praise in the Scripture revealed?”

“Except that I made your praise an impenetrable fortress

ويحىء الشفيع يسجد طوعا

تحت عرش الإله يرجو الكفيلا

Hoping to fulfill my tremendous hopes through it”

“I dared, O Generous One, knowing

ويناجي بأحسن الحمد شكرا

ويجيد التحميد والتهليلا

That whoever comes a beggar is welcomed as beggar

So enfold me in the aura of your glory and pour

وينادي ألا له من بوعد

إنه كان وعده مفعولا

Upon me, my asylum, a constant shade!”

“And perfect for me the beautiful, so bless me!

فينادي إرفع من الأرض رأسا

طال ما خر لي زمانا طويلا

For hope in the beautiful was always good”

The claimant to your beauty went astray in likeness,

وقل اسمع واشفع تشفع وسلني

أعطك السؤل والرضا المأمولا

O beauty manifest in guidance or match!

Glory perfected and eloquence simple

فوعزي لأقسمن سواء

جملة اليوم بيننا تفضيلا

Dew abundant, pride long

This, this is how one attains highness

فتنادي شفاعتي وأنادي

رحمتي تغمر العصاة شمولا

Not from one stingy did the hopeful attain

What God decreed cannot be attained by striving

هو غوثي وحبذا هو غوث

هو سؤلي وحبذا هو سولا

O wise brother, so leave figuring

And to God I complain of what I endure

ما نبا الدهر بي ورمت حماه

مستغيثا إلا أغاث منيلا

O complaints of hardship, so patience is beautiful!

And to Him I weep and plead in fear

لا ولا خفت والتجأت إليه

مستجيرا إلا أجار كفيلا

Of sins that burdened my frail back

Maybe, perhaps He removes my affliction

لا ولا رمت بالتطفل أدلى

مستنيلا إلا أنال جميلا

Or sends my matter back shaped anew

He suffices me, aids me, is my Trustee

حاش والله أن يضيق عني

جاهه الشامل العريض الطويلا

God suffices me, my Helper and Guardian!

O my hope, refuge, and aid

أو يصول الضنى علي وقلبي

صار فيه متيما متبولا

Fulfill what I hope of You as my sponsor!

O my beloved, confidante, my friend

أو أرى القبر حفرة لعذابي

وأماني به وقاني المهولا

You are nearer to me than any other in attainment

I am a servant while You are Lord, and who do I have

كيف أخزى وقد مننت برحب

في منام أقرطرفي الكليلا

If You abandon me for being ignorant?

I am needy and You are Wealthy

أو أراني على الجنان طريدا

بعدما صرت للجنان دخيلا

And we know the Wealthy gives amply

So heal my harm and grant me wellbeing and pardon me

يا فتى العرب قد أتيت دخيلا

وأرى العرب لا ترد الدخيلا

And allow me to attain Your abounding care

And spare me the harm of my turmoil and enlighten

وقصدت الحمى وجئت نزيلا

فارغ نزلي فالعرب ترعى النزيلا

My essence with piety, being for me a guide

And save me from sins and be my salvation

وتوسلت بامتداحك علي

أن أنال الجزا به تنويلا

Where the intimate friend does not avail his friend

And fulfill my debt and deliver me and give charity on my behalf

حاش علياك أن تخيب صبا

قرع الباب بالمديح سؤولا

And now decree for me that attainment

And begin for me goodness, travelling or staying

أنت أوفى من أن ترد وأسخى

باسما الجود أن تنيل القليلا

And spare me evil, asking or bestowed

And make me die as martyr and have mercy

أنت أعلى من مدح كل قؤول

يا لعمري فما عسى أن أقولا

Upon Your powerless destitute abject servant

And protect the realm under Commander Amr

وبذات الإله أقسم حقا

قسما صادقا عظيما جليلا

And the Imam Ar-Ridha' the All-Sufficient Guarantor

And aid him and grant him mighty victory

لو تكون الأفلاك والسحب طرا

والأراضي الجميع درجا طويلا

And allow him attainment and gifts

And envelop him and seal for him with good

والنبات الممد يضحى يراعا

ومياه الوجود حبرا كحيلا

And perpetuate him for existence with beautiful permanence

And protect the covenant with the Imam hoped for

وجميع الأنام تصرع كتبا

أبد الدهر وصفه تجميلا

Of generous hands, giver of abundance

And pardon him, grant him wellbeing, and give him

لم يوفوا بعشر عشر صفات

قد حباها الإله طه الرسولا

What he hopes, and spare him impediments

And drape him and it with the veil of safety

وبماذا يفي الجميع وقدما

أودع الله مدحك التنزيلا

And perpetuate his might timelessly long!

And conceal the Son of Vice and heal his suffering

غير أني جعلت مدحك حصنا

لأوفي به المخوف المهولا

And grant him eternity and spare him disgrace

And present parents with Your pardon and provide

وتطفلت يا جواد لعلمي

أن من جاء يقبل التطفيلا

My brothers and sons from You acceptance

And have mercy on my venerable guided sheikhs

فاكتنفني بسر جاهك وآسبغ

يا ملاذي علي ظلا ظليلا

And bring the Muslims collectively abundant grace!

And fulfill the return to sanctuary and mosque

وآجر امري على الجميل فطني

لم يزل والظن فيم جميلا

To see the House and Station, most ennobled

And facilitate my circumambulating and Sa`y

أخطأ المدعي لحسنك شبها

يا سنا واضح الهدى أو مثيلا

In veneration, overseeing the causeway

شرفا كاملا وفصلا بسيطا

وندى وافرا وفخرا طويلا

هكذا هكذا تنال المعالي

ليس من جاد أدرك المأمولا

ما قضى الله لا ينال يسعى

يا أخا الحزم فاترك التعليلا

وإلى الله أشتكي ما ألاقي

يا شكاة الضنى فصبرا جميلا

وإليه أبكي وأضرع خوفا

من ذنوب أو قرن ظهري الهزيلا

فعسى أو لعل يشكف ما بي

عن ما بي أعاد رسمي محيلا

هو حسبي وناصري ووكيلي

حسبي الله ناصرا ووكيلا

يا رجائي وملجئي وغياثي

كن بما أرتجيه منك كفيلا

يا حبيبي ومؤنسي وجليسي

أنت أدنى مني إلي وصولا

أنا عبد وأنت رب ومن لي

إن تكن معرضا لكوني جهولا

أنا ذوحاجة وأنت جواد

وراينا الجواد يولي الجميلا

أنا ذو فاقة وأنت غني

وعهدنا الغني يعطي الجزيلا

فاشف ضري وعافني واعف عني

وأنلني حنانك المبذولا

واكفني ضر مقلتي ونور

بالتقى باطني وكن لي دليلا

وأجرني من الذنوب وكن لي

حيث لا ينفع الخليل الخليلا

وأوف ديني ونجني وتصدق

واكتب الآن لي بذاك وصولا

وأولني الخير راحلا ومقيما

واكفني الشر سائلا ومسولا

وأمتني على الشهادة وارحم

عبدك البائس الفقير الذليلا

وصن الملك بالمليك أبي عمرو

والإمام الرضا الكفي الكفيلا

واعنه وانصره نصرا عزيزا

وأنله النوال والتنويلا

واكتنفه واختم له بجميل

وابقه للورى بقاء جميلا

واحفظ العهد بالعماد المرجى

ذي الأيادي المسعود معطي الجزيلا

واعف عنه وعافه وأنله

ما يرجيه واكفه التعطيلا

واسبل الستر حوله وعليه

وأدم عزه دواما طويلا

واستر ابن الخلوف واشف اذاه

وأته الخلد واكفه سجيلا

وامنح الوالدين عفوك وارزق

إخوتي والبنين منك القبولا

وارحم أشياخي الهداة ونول

معشر المسلمين فصلا جزيلا

واقض بالعود للحمى والمصلى

لرى البيت والمقام الحفيلا

وأوالي الطواف والسعى شكرا

وأراعي الصفا وأرعى السبيلا

وأعدني لطيبة وقباها

لأزور المشفع المقبولا

وأريح المطايا فيها إلى أن

يقضي الله أمره المفعولا

وأرى في ثرى البقيع دفينا

وألقى جواره المأمولا

فاستجب لي بما استجبت لنوح

ولأيوب إذ أتاك دخيلا

وأغثني بما أغثت عتيقا

وعليا وجعفراً وعقيلا

واكتنفني بما اكتنفت بلالا

ورباحا ورافعا ونبيلا

واصطنعني بما اصطنعت الحميرا

وزليخا ومريما والبتولا

وتفضل بسح سحب صلاة

تشمل السيد الحبيب الرسولا

وعلى الآل والصحابة طرا

حافظي دينه الثقاة العدولا

ما أجاب الإله عبدا ذليلا

قام يدعوه بكرة وأصيلا
