وَيومٍ أدْكَنِ الجِلْبَابِ أبْدَى
مُحَيَّا الشمسِ تحت سماء غَيْمِ
And many a sable-cloaked day revealed
the sun’s countenance beneath a cloud-filled sky;
غدوْتُ به عَلَى حُكْمِ التَّصَابِي
أمَزّقُ بالمَسَرَّةِ جَيْبَ ضَيْمِي
on it I set out beneath the sway of youthful folly,
rending with delight the collar of my oppression.
