وَغَزَالٍ قَضَى بِسَفْكِ دَمِي
مَا احْتِيَالي وَقدْ قَضَى القَاضِي
A gazelle decreed my blood be shed
What can I scheme when the judge has ruled
لَسْتُ أدْرِي وَقَدْ قَضَى عَبَثاً
بِاحْتِكَامٍ أنَا بِهِ رَاضِي
I know not why he decreed in vain
With a verdict I'm pleased and acquiesced
هَلْ كُسِرْنَا بِلحظِ نَاظِرِهِ
أمْ نُصِبْنَا بِفِعْلِهِ المَاضِي
Did his gaze make us buckle and break
Or his past actions make us erect and rise
