إِنّ الّتي حَكتِ الضّحى
والصُّبحُ في أسْرِ الدّياجِي
She who spun tales at dawn
While morning lurked in the folds of night
ما كنتُ يومَ تعرّضتْ
لِي من حِبالتها بناجِ
The day she set her traps for me
With her ropes of love
أدْوَتْ فؤادِي من صَبا
بتها وضنّتْ بالعلاجِ
She made my heart ache with yearning
And nursed it with hope
ولقد أقولُ لها وضل
لَ عن النّصيحةِ مَنْ يُداجِي
And though I say to her, one who
Persists in false hope is led astray
يا حُلْوةً كم دون حُلْ
وكِ للمتيَّمِ من أُجاجِ
O sweetness, how much bitterness
There is for the lovesick besides you
وإذا ضَنِنْتِ فقد أسَأْ
تِ وفي يديكِ بلوغُ حاجِي
And when you spurn me, you have done
Wrong, for my wish rests in your hands
