The Yemeni lightning struck you
In the dark night when you yearned
It dyed the horizon, so we said:
Is it a settlement or just a mirage?
Or has it become like the beautiful Yemen
With this red cornelian stone?
We doubted while it was on the horizon
Rising and setting.
Did the night fly away
Until the time came for sunrise?
Or is it the flame of the western
Trees burning in the darkness?
And the riding camels like the slave girls
Made distant by the vast expanse.
And the frost of traveling one day
Numb, unable to awaken,
Whoever saw it said: This one
The nectar has circulated in it.
And on the stallion and the riders
Of stallions in the desert a path.
Crossing the two lands, complaining,
Sailing the roughness of the dunes.
And the young man of the traveling company
Who did not know his companion.
