اِسعَد سَعِدتَ بساعة التّحويلِ

وبقاءِ ملكٍ في الأنامِ طويلِ

You were made happy with the time of the translation

And the reign of a king among the people remained long

وإذا قدمتَ على المسرّةِ فليكنْ

ذاك القدوم لنا بغير رحيلِ

And when you come to visit, let

That coming to us be without departing

وإذا دخلتَ إلى رباعك كان ذي

ياك الدّخولُ لديك خيرَ دخولِ

And when you enter your quarters, that

Entering with you is the best entering

قد آن أن تحظى الأسرّةُ منك بالس

سكنى كما حَظِيَتْ ظهورُ خيولِ

It is time that the family enjoys your

Settling down as the appearing of horses enjoyed

دعْ منزلاً لا أهلَ فيه ولا به

وأقمْ لنا بالمنزل المأهولِ

Leave a house that has no family or life in it

And stay for us in the inhabited house

لو تستطيع منازلٌ فارقتها

وحللتَ فيها اليومَ أيَّ حلولِ

If you could leave houses

And live in them today, what settlements!

لَسَعتْ إليك تشوّقاً ولأوْسَعَت

يُمناك من ضمٍّ ومن تقبيلِ

They would yearn for you in longing and expand

Your right hand with embracing and kissing

ولقد رأيتُ بخاطري وبناظري

في غابك المرهوب خيرَ شبولِ

And I have seen in my thoughts and sights

In your absence the best of visions

الشمسُ أنتَ وهمْ نجومٌ حولَها

أقسمن أن لا رُعْننا بأُفولِ

You are the sun and they are the stars around it

Who swore not to set

لولا شهادتُهمْ عليك لكنتَ في

ما بيننا حقّاً بغير دليلِ

If it weren't for their testimony about you, you would be

Among us without proof indeed

إنْ ينحفوا لصباً فقد جثموا عُلىً

ولهمْ بفضل الأصل كلُّ عَبولِ

If they bow to youth, they have sat arrogantly

And they, by the virtue of origin, have every intractability

أيُّ البدور وقد تبدّى طالعاً

من قبلِ تَمٍّ ليس بالمهزولِ

Which stars when they appeared rising

From a complete one not declining

زِينَتْ علاك بنور أوْجههمْ كما

زين الجواد بغُرّةٍ وحُجولِ

Your heights were adorned by the light of their faces as

The steed was adorned with silk and necklaces

لهمُ القبول من المحاسن كلِّها

والحسنُ مطرُوحٌ بغير قبولِ

They accept from all beauties

While beauty is rejected without acceptance

ما فيهمُ إلّا الّذي هو صارمٌ

ماضي الشَّبا ذو رَوْنَقٍ مصقولِ

There is nothing in them but the one who is resolute

With past youth and polished grace

إنْ كان أُغْمِدَ برهةً فَلِسَلِّهِ

والمغمدُ المرجوّ كالمسلولِ

If sheathed for a while due to his chain

The sheathed desired is like the drawn sword

عبقوا بِنَشر الملك وسط مهودهمْ

وبغايةِ التّعظيم والتّبجيلِ

They smelled of spreading the kingdom in the midst of their bedouins

And with the utmost glorification and veneration

فهمُ غصونٌ لا ذَوَيْن على مدَى

مرّ الزّمان ولا دنتْ لذبولِ

For they are branches with no bending over

The passage of time, nor approached wilting

لا تختشِ ما عشتَ بادرةَ العِدى

فكثيرهمْ من مكرهمْ كقليلِ

Do not fear as long as you live the initiative of enemies

For many of their tricks are like few

وَاِبعثْ إلى معطيك كلَّ إدراةٍ

من دعوةٍ مسموعةٍ برسولِ

And send to your granter of every ability

A prayer heard by a messenger

إنّ الّذي أعطى المُنى فيما مَضى

يُعطيك في آتيك فوقَ السُّولِ

Indeed, He who granted favors in the past

Will grant you in your future above wishes

لك من مَعوناتِ الإلهِ ونصرهِ

في الرَّوعِ أيُّ أسِنَّةٍ ونصولِ

For you from the aids of God and His victory

In fright, any tongues and attainments

ولقد أقول لمن أراه يخيفني

ويسدّ عن طرقِ الرّجاء سبيلي

And I say to those who I see frightening me

And blocking the paths of hope from my way

دعني وعاداتِ الإله فإنّني

لا أترك المعلومَ للمجهولِ

Leave me and God's customs, for I

Do not leave the known for the unknown

أوَ ما رأيتَ اللّهَ لما ضاقتِ ال

أرجاءُ كيف أتى بكلّ جميلِ

Or have you not seen God, when directions

Narrowed, how He came with every beauty?

وأنَا الّذي أهوى هواك ولا أُرى

إلّا بحيثُ تقيل فيه مَقيلي

And I am the one who loves your love and does not see

Except where you stay for my stay

وأنا الجوادُ فإنْ سئلتُ تحوّلاً

عن دار ودّك كنتُ جِدَّ بخيلِ

And I am the steed, so if I were asked for

A change from your home, I would be stingy

حوشيتَ أن يُعنى سواك بخاطري

أو أنْ أجرّر في ذراه ذيولي

You disliked that any other be concerned with my thoughts

Or that I drag tails behind me

وإذا بقيتَ مملَّكاً ومسلَّماً

فقد اِرتقيتَ إلى ذُرا مأمولي

And if you remain empowered and surrendered

Then you have risen to my wished heights

خذها على عجلٍ فإنْ قصّرتُها

فبقدرِ ما أسلفتَ من تطويلي

Take it in a hurry, for if I shortened it

Then by the extent of what you advanced in my length

لي في الثّناءِ على علاك قصائدٌ

كالشّمس تدخل دارَ كلّ قبيلِ

I have in praising your heights poems

Like the sun entering every tribe's house

طبّقن شرقاً في البلاد ومغرباً

ولهنّ في القِيعان كلُّ ذميلِ

They covered the East in the countries and the West

And they have in the wastelands every bucket rope

وسكنّ ألْبابَ الرّجال وحيثما

كان القريض إليه غيرَ وَصولِ

And settled the minds of men wherever

The poem could not reach
