Will our time return youthful,
Flowing in the valleys of bloom,
And will he who turned from us
Come back to us welcoming?
A moon, whose cheek dimple
Is the seat of beauty,
I gave him my heart, how much
He took, who took as loan.
And I say, how much I see
Of wonders fate has ruled.
You are perfection, so how could
One who loves you fall ill?
And if you are loved, do not
Remain still hated by your lover.
You changed my hair black
When you left white.
No harm if my love's arrow-pierced one
Had in him life remaining.
And renewing disdain, if before
Reunion, turned away again.
Who will tell the chief
Announcing and refusing me?
You are the one who, when winning
His love, I gained contentment.
And I forgave time's sin
For his sake, what had passed.
The valiant sons of Sargis
Remain the excellent aids.
The early ones, to the merits
Every swift goer raced.
Lions that you see them to the cavalry
In merits ever ready.
And if a youth of them one day
Threw, he hit and pierced.
And if a wounded man cried out
To them in tumult, they barred the way
With swords and spears
And blades like lightning flash.
I fear to make you
My friends, or refuse you.
Or to see in your absence
One changed or substituted.
No state of affection between us
Will time or end erase.
And the tent of what dawned and darkened
Between us, nothing demolished.
And if I stay, I care not
Who fate takes him.
Take it, leading with it
To you a barren escort.
It will clothe what was not graced
From it, nor freshness gained.
If but for you it came from me
It would spend the night cast off.
