وأعرضتِ حتّى لا أراك وإنّما

أَرى منكِ وَجهَ الشّمسِ أو طلعةَ البدرِ

You turned away so I could not see you, yet

I only see your face like the sun or the rising moon

ولم يكُ ذاك الصّدّ إِلّا لِمقلتي

وقلبِيَ عَن مَغْنَى هواك بلا سِتْرِ

That rejection was only for my eyes

And my heart without protection from your love

وهجرُكِ منّي ليس إلّا لِعلّةٍ

ولكنّ هجراً جاء منكِ بلا عذرِ

Your abandonment of me is only for a reason

Yet it came from you without excuse

ويومِيَ لا ألقاكِ فيه وأجتلِي

بِهِ منك وَجهَ الحُسن ما هو من عمري

My days where I cannot find you in them

And uncover from you the face of beauty that is my lifetime

وَإِن لَم يَكُن لِي منكِ صفحٌ فَأَعطِني

نصيباً من البلوى وحظّاً من الصّبرِ

And if I cannot find forgiveness from you then give me

A share of torment and fortune of patience

فلا تفُتَنوا بعدي بشيءٍ فإنّنِي

فُتِنْتُ بمملوءِ الجفون من السِّحْرِ

So do not be tempted by me for I

Am tempted by eyelids filled with magic

يُسيءُ وما ينوي الإساءَةَ عابثاً

ويُقلقني شوقاً إليه وما يدري

He does wrong without intending harm

And troubles me with longing for him without knowing

وَهانَ عليهِ وَالهَوى ليسَ عندهُ

دموعٌ لبينٍ منه أو جفوةٌ تجري

And it was easy for him though love is not with him

Tears for one distant or coldness that flows

فيا ليتَ من يشفي الجوى لم يُعِلَّنِي

ومن لم يكن نفعِي به لم يكن ضَرّي

Oh, if only the one who heals ardour had not made me love

And the one who brought no benefit had brought no harm
