واللَّه لا ذقتُ يوماً

مرارةً للسّؤالِ

By God, I have never tasted

The bitterness of asking

ولا سمحتُ بعِرْضِي

وقايةً دون مالي

Nor have I offered my dignity

As protection without my money

ولا رضيتُ قراراً

إلّا قلالَ المعالي

Nor have I accepted any settlement

Except the most honorable ones
