1. يا اِبن عبد العزيز إنّ فؤادِي

    منذ فارقتنِي عليك جريحُ

    O son of Abdel Aziz, my heart

    Has been wounded since you left me

  2. إنَّ جَفْنِي عليك حزناً جوادٌ

    وهو في كلّ من سواك شحيحُ

    My eyelids shed tears of sorrow for you

    While towards others they are miserly

  3. عَذَلونِي وما اِستَوى عِندَ أهْلِ الْ

    نَصْفِ والعَدْلِ سالمٌ وجريحُ

    They blamed me, though to the people of justice and fairness

    Both the sound and the wounded are equal

  4. داءُ قلبِي يُدوى وفيهِ من الأشْ

    جانِ ما فيه ما يقول الصَّحيحُ

    The sickness of my heart is inflamed, containing

    Sorrows beyond what the truthful can express

  5. وإذا لم تكنْ مُصيخاً إلى عَذْ

    لٍ فَسيّان أَعجَمٌ وَفَصيحُ

    And if you are not intentionally cruel

    Then both eloquent and inarticulate are the same

  6. لي لسانٌ ومدمعٌ حَمَلا رُزْ

    ءَك ذا كاتمٌ وذاك يبوحُ

    I have a tongue and weeping eyes that carry

    Your misfortune - one conceals and the other reveals

  7. ويراني الصّحيحَ من ليس يدري

    أنّ غيرِي هو السَّليمُ الصَّحيحُ

    And the healthy see me who don't know

    That it is others who are safe and sound

  8. وَبرَغْمي عَريتُ منكَ وبُوعِدْ

    تَ ردىً وَاِحتَوى عَليكَ الضّريحُ

    Despite me, you turned away, and death

    Enshrouded you in the grave

  9. مُفردٌ وَالأنيسُ عَنكَ بَعيدٌ

    لَيس إلّا جَنادلٌ وصفيحُ

    Alone, with no intimate but distant ones

    None but partridges and travelers

  10. وغمامٌ موكّلُ الجَفْنِ بالقَطْ

    رِ ووُرْقٌ من الحمامِ ينوحُ

    Clouds assigned to shed tears from my eyelids

    And leaves of doves that lament

  11. لَيسَ يَنجو منَ الحِمامِ مليحٌ

    لا ولا صادقُ الضّرابِ مُشيحُ

    No beautiful or sincere lover escapes

    Neither the cooing nor the fervent billing

  12. وإذا أمّك الحِمامُ فما يُغْ

    نِي من الطّيرِ بارحٌ وسَنيحُ

    And when the doves gather, nothing consoles me

    Of the birds, neither the fleer nor the moaner

  13. وَمِنَ اِينَ البقاءُ والجسمُ تُربٌ

    يَتَلاشى وإنّما الرُّوحُ روحُ

    And from where is permanence, when the body is dust

    Vanishing, and only the soul remains

  14. وَإِذا غايَةُ الفتى كانتِ المو

    تَ فماذا التَعميمُ والتّمليحُ

    And if death is the ultimate end of man

    What then is the point of analogies and hints?

  15. كلُّ يومٍ لنا بطُرقِ الرّزايا

    طَلَبَ الغُنْمَ رازحٌ وطليحُ

    Each day in the path of sustenance for us

    A barefoot and naked wretch wanders

  16. رائِحٌ ما لهُ غدّوٌ وَإمّا

    ذو غدوٍّ لكنّه لا يروحُ

    One who has no tomorrow, or one who has

    A tomorrow but does not return

  17. وإذا فاتنا غَبوقُ المنايا

    بِاِتّفاقِ الزّمانِ فهو الصَّبوحُ

    And when the inevitability of death

    Overtakes us by the turning of time, it is morning

  18. كم لنا مودَعاً إلى ساعةِ الحش

    رِ ببطنِ التّرابِ وجهٌ صبيحُ

    How many we've bid farewell until the final hour

    In the belly of dust, faces still radiant

  19. وجليلاً معظّماً كان للآ

    مالِ فيه التّرحيبُ والتَّرشيحُ

    Exalted and revered though he was

    For ambitions - welcomed and nominated

  20. أيّها الذّاهبُ الّذي طاحَ والأح

    زانُ مِنّا عليه ليس تَطيحُ

    O you who fell, while we

    Still grieve for him, though not excessively

  21. لا عرفتَ القبيح في دارك الأخ

    رى فما كان منك فعلٌ قبيحُ

    You knew no disgrace in your final abode

    And committed no shameful deed

  22. ليس إلّا الصّلاة والصّوم والتَّسْ

    هيدُ جُنحَ الظّلامِ والتّسبيحُ

    Nothing but prayers, fasting, extolling

    The darkness' wings, and glorification

  23. وحديثٌ تَرويهِ ما فيه إلّا

    واضحٌ نيِّرٌ وحقٌّ صحيحُ

    And a narrative containing nothing

    But the lucid, the pure, and the true

  24. إِنّ قَوماً ما زالَ حشواً لأَضلا

    عِك ودٌّ لهمْ نقِيٌّ صريحُ

    A people who are still stuffing for your misguided views

    Bearing sincere love for them

  25. لك وِرْدٌ من حوضهمْ غيرُ مطرو

    قٍ وبابٌ إليهمُ مفتوحُ

    A niche from their rain-tank, untainted

    And an open door to them

  26. وَاِلتِقاءٌ بِهم وحولَهُمُ النّا

    سُ فذا خاسرٌ وذاك ربيحُ

    Meeting with them, and around them people

    So one loses and the other profits

  27. والثّوابُ الّذي يضيق بقومٍ

    هو من أجلهمْ عليك فسيحُ

    The reward which seems meager to some

    Is for them, and towards you, plentiful

  28. لَستُ أَخشى عليكَ عُسراً ومنهمْ

    لك مُعطٍ ونافحٌ ومُميحُ

    I do not fear any hardship for you, and they

    Are givers, strivers, and smootheners for you

  29. فَسَقى قَبرَك الّذي أَنتَ فيهِ

    مُسبِلٌ هاملُ السّحابِ سَفوحُ

    One who sends down pouring rain has quenched

    Your grave in which you lie

  30. كلَّما جازه غمامٌ نزيحٌ

    جاءَه مُثقَلُ الرَّبابِ دَلوحُ

    Whenever a passing cloud stops by

    It comes laden with dripping buckets

  31. وإذا زاره الرّجالُ فلا زا

    ل عليهم منه الذَّكاءُ يفوحُ

    And if men visit, the consciousness from it

    Does not cease perfuming them
